  • Brewers Minor League Link Report (4/7): Sloppy Sounds Fall as We Await a Full Slate

    Jim Goulart

The Nashville Sounds dropped their second consecutive game after their Opening Night win. They'll no longer have the action spotlight to themselves as all four Brewers full-season affiliates begin play Friday evening. As will be our norm, your report kicks off with the transaction news for the day.

    Transactions:

At AAA Nashville, RHP Alec Bettinger was placed on the ambiguous "Development List". But the 40-man roster and brief 2021 big-leaguer did not make it into any of Milwaukee's spring training games, so while it's optimistic that Bettinger has not been placed on a formal injured list, something clearly is amiss. While the Brewers will rarely comment on the roster status of farmhands, they normally will when a 40-man roster player is involved. Expect one or more of the Brewers beat guys to follow up with the front office soon and get us some clarity on Alec's situation.

The Brewers trimmed their Dominican Academy spring camp roster by three, and we detailed those releases in a post within our 2022 Minor League Transaction Thread at our Minor League Forum.

Defensive Miscues Lead to Nashville Loss - Durham Cashes in on Opportunities to take Series Lead

Newcomer CF Jonathan Davis has seen big-league action in each of the past four seasons (TOR, NYY). He singled and walked three times here, added a stolen base. You reach base four times in a contest, you're bound to get a Link Report shoutout.

Jon Singleton is the only Nashville position player to appear in all three games thus far, utilized as the designated hitter here, though he won't be homering in every game this season as was his pace through Wednesday's action.

Jamie Westbrook reached base three more times and his .714 OBP through two games seems sustainable. Kidding aside, Westbrook won't turn 27 until June, and proved his value and versatility in 2021, his first season with the Crew. Not sure if it'll be in 2022, but Westbrook will play on an MLB diamond before his playing career goes much deeper.

The Sounds reached base 13 times via hit or walk, but went 2-for-13 with RISP.

RHP Dylan File will accept a 5-to-1 K-to-BB ratio every four innings, an opening effort to build on.

Fireballing RHP Hobie Harris had a sweet Milwaukee organization debut after stints with the Yankees (his original club) and a 2021 spent in the Jays' system. Harris stranded both runners that LHP Angel Perdomo walked, then followed up with a scoreless frame to keep it within reason late.

There was only one video highlight available, a slick play by another minor league free agent signing, former Cubs/Nationals/Guardians infielder Andruw Monasterio

Yet another newcomer, sidewinding 28-year-old RHP Trevor Kelley (Red Sox/Phillies/Cubs/Braves) did surrender this home run. Normally we won't post "lowlights", so to speak, but notice that the Durham social team ran with Nashville's MiLB.TV feed and spliced the video to suit their needs. Just something the Crew affiliates might wish to consider if able:

We did find out one Mississippi native is thrilled to be in Biloxi, video at the link below:

It was Media Day in Carolina, and OF Hedbert Perez was among the interview subjects (video via WRAL here).

    More video:
This is our first chance to see/listen to new Mudcats' Manager Victor Estevez, up from a lengthy stint managing for the organization in the Dominican. Certainly Estevez' promotion was earned on merit, but it doesn't hurt that he'll be able to communicate fully with a roster packed with Latin American prospects.

In alumni news, we're all Cooper Hummel fans (2021 Eduardo Escobar trade), and we're loving these "you're going to The Show" videos across the baseball landscape:

And in very Cooper Hummel form, this was his big league debut in a 7th inning pinch-hit appearance:

RHP's Justin Bullock and Justin Jarvis named Opening Night starters for Biloxi and Wisconsin, respectively, "justin" case you were wondering ?

RHP Ryne Moore will make his full-season debut with Carolina after toiling in Maryvale last summer. The 2021 18th round pick out of Old Dominion was interviewed by WRAL here (video).
