Week 3 of the minor-league season is complete. Two of the Brewers affiliates, both Triple-A Nashville and Double-A Biloxi, are first-place teams. High-A Wisconsin is in second place. Low-A Carolina is the lone affiliate under .500, at 7-8. Several top prospects had big weeks, so as Week 4 is about to begin, let’s look back at Week 3.

With their 20th-round pick in this year's draft, the Brewers chose Washington State shortstop Shea Vucinich. He took some time to chat with me on Thursday.

Terrific offensive output catapulted Nashville, Biloxi and Carolina to big wins, while the Timber Rattlers held on to a 6-4 victory to claw within a game of first place Cedar Rapids. In all, the Brewers’ affiliates combined for 44 runs and 41 hits, including seven home runs.

We are now past Memorial Day, about two months into the season. The Brewers are in first place. Nashville is in first place. Double-A Biloxi is in first place by percentage points. Wisconsin split their series with Cedar Rapids to remain just one game behind. Carolina is in first place. Things are good. Find out more about another strong week in the Brewers farm system.  

Fans in attendance at the three Brewers affiliate games saw plenty of action Friday night, There were runs scored (both the good and bad guys) in 22 half-innings, including ten turns at bat in Biloxi. 

Left-handed pitcher Brandon Knarr pitched very well in Wisconsin and Biloxi in 2022. Recently, he joined us for a three-part Brewers Spotlight. In Part 1 today, we hear about growing up in Pennsylvania, learning a pitch from a Hall of Famer, his hitting ability, spending a season at Notre Dame and a big year at the College of Central Florida.

In this installment, we discuss his brief time at the University of Tampa, his decision to sign with Milwaukee instead of some bigger-market teams, what he did during Covid, his 2022 season, and some discussion of his plan for the offseason. 

On Thursday morning, MLB announced the participants in the upcoming Futures Game. Two Milwaukee Brewers prospects will participate, LHP Antoine Kelly, Jr., and outfielder Jackson Chourio. 

7/14 Update: Joey Wiemer was added to the Futures Game roster. 

Jackson Chourio provided most the offense in Carolina’s 6-3 win, with Carlos F. Rodriguez shutting the door with 4 scoreless innings. Justin Jarvis pitched Wisconsin to a series-tying victory. Biloxi once again led most of their game, before inventing a new way to lose (3 ninth inning runs on zero hits). Nashville lost its first series of the season, failing to match Durham’s clutch hitting.

Castaneda & Co. tossed a shutout for Biloxi. Four solo home runs and strong pitching won it for Nashville. Knarr dominated again for Wisconsin. Carolina’s offense was unable to support a solid pitching effort.

The affiliates win three of five on Saturday and move to a cumulative 50-33 after one month of action. Combine that with the big-league Brewers tied for best in the National League with a 15-7 mark, and the organization is 65-40.

Seems that "develop a winning culture" is a real thing, no affiliate under .500 as of this morning. Kudos to all!
