    Scouting Report

Drafted 27th overall, Eric Brown is an exciting shortstop from Coastal Carolina. With average tools across the board, Brown projects as a solid regular.

Brown has a phenomenal ability to put bat to ball and has hit everywhere he's played. He doesn't have a lot of power, but may still develop into that. His set-up at the plate is a little different and reminds some of Craig Counsell.

Defensively, Brown was considered one of the best in the collegiate ranks. He's very quick and athletic enough to stick in the middle of the infield.

Says VP of domestic scouting, Tod Johnson, of Brown:

    Quote

"It's his well-rounded game as far as being both an offensive contributor as well as, we think, a pretty good defender. We like guys that can stay in the middle of the field. And we love the kid. He's a good kid, as well, and a hard worker. All the stuff we have on his character is really good. We talked a lot with his coaches and that kind of thing and dug deep on that. So, pretty excited about all that, those parts of it. The combination of those things was what really pushed us there with him."

    Scouting Report

The Brewers got a big arm at pick #63 in Jacob Misiorowski.

Still young, Misiorowski is 6' 7", 190 and still very projectable. What's super exciting is that Misiorowski already hits 100 mph with his fastball and also throws a near-90 mph slider. Committed to LSU, Misiorowski is projected to be a starter, but with an arm like that the bullpen is a solid back-up plan.

Misiorowski has had some injuries in his past and that is likely when he's flown a little under the radar. But the secret's out about Misiorowski and his very talented right arm.

Says VP of domestic scouting, Tod Johnson, of Misiorowski:

    Quote

"It's electric stuff. Four-pitch potential. He's 6-6, pretty thin still, there's some filling out to come still. Touches 100 right now, already, with strength to come in the future. It was one of the best pure arms in the draft, probably, so that was exciting."

    Scouting Report

    7/26 Update:

The son of Royals president Dayton Moore, Robert knows his way around the game.

Though small at 5' 9", 170 pounds and having played mostly second base, Moore was drafted as a shortstop and has a chance to stay there. The fielding tool is plus.

Offensively, Moore hit more home runs than his size would lead you to believe he should, but he will only have near-average power. Moore's offensive output declined after a solid 2021 season. He entered the 2022 season with hopes of being a first-round pick but a disappointing 2022 season led him to drop down boards.

Says VP of domestic scouting, Tod Johnson, of Moore:

    Quote

"He had kind of a rougher year last year and that's why he was available to us at 72. He didn't show the same amount of power but we really like a lot of the foundation of what he was good at offensively that was still there. He still controlled the zone."

7/22 Update: Multiple outlets are reporting that O'Rae is headed to Arizona to undergo his physical and sign his contract this week.

The Brewers went off draft boards to select the young, undersized infielder in the 3rd round.

O'Rae is only 17 years old and is committed to the University of Illinois and has been a part of Baseball Canada’s Junior National Team.

Says VP of domestic scouting, Tod Johnson, of O'Rae:

    Quote

"He's somebody that we (think will) physically development. He's not a big kid but he's pretty young. He's got a chance to get stronger. He's a well above-average runner. He has good instincts and good hands in the field."

Brewers Minor League Link Report (8/9): Eric Brown Jr. Claims Early Stud Status, T-Rats Nearly Turn 7-0 Deficit Into Thrilling Victory

With Eric Brown Jr. and Robert Moore atop the Mudcats batting order and Jeferson Quero in Wisconsin, it was a new look line-up for Carolina as they took on the Delmarva Shorebirds. Wisconsin nearly completed an epic comeback while Biloxi couldn't hold a narrow comeback lead as Nick Bennett struggled with the long ball. Fitzpatrick struck out 28 in 23 innings for Rutgers before striking out 19 hitters in 19 innings with only two walks for the Brewster Whitecaps in the CCL.

    Anonymous scout on Fitzgerald:

    Quote

"He's good. Long, loose body. Probably a lot more in the tank. Not a lot of innings because of Tommy John and COVID. Lower slot, but fastball plays, especially up. Slider needs some work. Good pick. Wouldn't be surprised if the throws harder."

    Overlooked Brewers Prospects: Starting Pitchers

The Brewers farm system has developed some fantastic talent in recent years. The trio of Corbin Burnes, Brandon Woodruff, and Freddy Peralta has topped the starting rotation since 2018. Josh Hader nailed down the ninth inning from 2019 until the July 2022 trade that may or may not have derailed the season. Brent Suter, Aaron Ashby, and Devin Williams made their way through the pitching pipeline.

Brewers Minor League Link Report ( 8/23): Rookie Leagues Finales, Jace Peterson Rehabs, and Promotions Abound

It was the grand finale for the DSL and ACL Brewers squads - honestly, a sweet sigh of relief was heard amongst our Minor League reporting crew. Jace Peterson began his Brewers rehab assignment with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. Ernesto Martinez headed back to the IL (sigh). Clayton Andrews pitched his second scoreless frame as he continues his long comeback from injury. A bevy of exciting promotions fill the Transaction wire (look out below). Oh, and there were seven contests throughout the system. Let's get into those reports!

7/19 Update: We'll keep Neal as "pending" in the tracker since he still has a couple weeks to change his mind, but it sounds as though he'll be heading to Baton Rouge, as expected.

Brady Neal was one of the top-ranked prep catching prospects in the whole draft. Though he doesn't have a plus tool, he was projected to be a Day 1 pick, though a commitment to LSU and a hefty price tag probably scared teams away.

It is very likely that Neal honors his commitment to LSU unless the Brewers get awfully creative with their pool money.
