RoadRunner modem

My parents' RoadRunner box was the subject of a family fued Monday night because it kept getting disconnecting and I did everything I could to get it working again. The cable light kept constantly blinking and wasn't a solid yellow light all night long. Now it is working, but I thought about calling Time Warner and requesting a new box because it worked inconsistently from Saturday up until late Tuesday night. I think the box is kind of "defective" because this isn't the first time it has happened. I even tried unplugging the power from it and plugging it back in Monday and it still didn't work.

Anyone else have this problem? Plus, I think the cable leading to the splicer may be a bit old, and the splicer could be a bit old as well. Could that be the problem? My mom blamed me for the entire problem Monday night even though she admits I know more about computers than her.

I'd just take it into a Time Warner store if there is one near you. They know full well that their hardware is crrrrrrrap. I recently took my digital cable box in to the store at Mayfair and the line was literally out the door. Every person in line was returning the same cable box or a cable modem. When it was finally my turn they asked me no questions about the problems I was having and just replaced it with a new box.

I've been having this problem since a very windy night back at the end of January. It's been better as of late, but it might be something with the cable wiring coming into your house. If there is any decrease in picture quality that is probably it. I have a TWC tech coming later this week, I'll post back after that.

I have that problem as well, and I'm getting pretty tired of it. Once I have an ounce of free time, I plan on calling Time Warner and getting a new modem. I did a quick bit of research on the model I have, and I noticed that other people have had problems with it... I guess Time Warner will just give you a new modem, and you should be fine.

I had the same problem about a year ago when I was living in a different apartment complex, and the tech seemed to be blaming it on the apartments and not their equipment.

 

There's one thing you might want to look into if it gives you any extended problems. At one point I basically went 2 weeks with my service being off and on...more off than on. I called Time Warner and said I wanted a refund for the 2 weeks. I basically told the guy that I was paying for a service that they weren't providing, and he gave me a 2 week credit on my next bill.

 

As for how to fix it, my problem was not the modem. I don't know exactly what the tech did, but he was working more with the cables than he was the modem. I got 3 different modems and had the same problems, but as soon as he messed with the cables I never had a problem again.

If I had Braun's pee in my fridge I'd tell everybody.

Had the same problem here for several months. Longest it's ever been out was maybe 3 days, and it only happens sporadically (knock on wood). When I bought my new computer in March of last year, I had to d'load the correct driver for the modem. It's a Motorola, and the unit that we have isn't made anymore. Apparently not for a while, either.

 

3 in one year? Yikes. Maybe I should appreciate our only semi crappy modem more.

If I were having connection difficulties, I wouldn't hesitate to have the company send me modem after modem after modem. It's a rental, and if nothing else, I'd be getting their attention.

A tech guy came over today and did the same thing to my parents cable system. They placed an amplifier in the basement and replaced the modem entirely. I used to have a Terayon and now we have a WebStar one. The tech guy also got rid of the splicer entirely since the cable plate had two jacks on it (we still have the old jacks from the olden days of Telecable when we had an "A" and "B" channel system).

endaround, the thing is... it may be impossible to rewire my parents house entirely with new cables since a siding company covered up ALL of the cable wires leading outside about 15 years ago.
