I don't think they plan on putting him under the pressure cooker, they're going to put him in it. I guess they're hoping for weight loss results similar to a sauna.

Ugh... wow. That is really amazing that is all he could get. It's not like it's a lock that Boston would have any use for him during the season.

 

I wish the Brewers would have made a run at him, I wonder if he could make an effective reliever if he can get his velocity back up to at least 93-94.

True that, I'd rather have a very iffy Bartolo Colon than a Randy Choate. There's a very good chance that he contributes nothing, but the exact same can be said about Choate.

Sure, but Choate's a LHP. If Colon was legitimately one of the best SP options out there, I guarantee you Melvin will shortly begin (if he hasn't already) taking offers on Bush/Cap/Vargas.

That's a great question. Why would any one want a major league contract (Bush/Cappy/Vargas) when a minor league contract will do. Think about it. Most teams will take some time before they determine their in-season pitching needs. By that time Colon has either proved himself or not. If he proves himself then the team can tell Melvin to stuff it as he tries to deal a #5 starter. If Colon doesn't prove himself, no harm done, back to plan A. Nice signing. I'm surprised he didn't sign with the Reds or Cards.
