Spring Training pics

Patrick425

I've noticed that too. He looks like a little leaguer fielding in all the pics from this Spring. It's something he should definitely work on.

Ick. Then it isn't just me. It's just such a bad fielding habit. *sigh*

Why is it that whenever I see a pic of Weeks fielding a grounder, he's got his body nowhere near being behind the ball? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
Although, probably not the most "text book" way of doing it...it appears that he may be trying to cheat a little and get his body facing towards second as he fielding the ball in order to make a quicker feed to 2nd. Not sure though.

Edit: Duh, for what ever reason I was thinking Weeks was taking grounders at SS (probably not)...although he still could be getting his mo toward 1st as he fields the ball (assuming that's where the play is).

i believe infielders are taught to field routine balls on the glove side of the body as opposed to right down the middle of their body.

not sure what the reasoning is behind this exactly, but i believe it's "standard baseball wisdom" or whatever...

It's not so much that they field it on the glove side, but they are taught to arch or angle towards the ball so that the momentum is carrying them towards 1st (when making the throw to 1st). However on plays to second, I beleive it's more standard to field the ball in front of you then drop your left or right foot (depending on wheter you are playing 2nd or SS) and sidearm the ball to second (unless your fielding a ball up the middle and your momentum is carrying you toward second, then obviously you either take it yourself or underhand flip it).

Yea, I know... but I just see replays of Rickie missing easy(-ish) grounders by positioning himself like this playing over & over in my nightmares about Brewers baseball. On the whole, the strategy is positive, but Weeks suffers from pairing the strategy with poor natural instincts (imo) on D.

  • 2 weeks later...

Here are my pics from the 3rd - 6th. The zoom on my tiny camera is terrible which tells you how close you actually are to the players. This was my first trip to ST and I have to say that it exceeded my expectations, which I didn't think was possible. Great seats every game, foul balls, conversations with players and a burnt red face to boot. I'm looking forward to next year.

I have more pictures, including one of me with DM and Gord Ash. I'll post them if someone asks.

That's where I sat for yesterday's game. I was about 1 ft. away from Luis Pena or Bill Castro the whole game. I got to listen to Ned radio Bill from the dugout to talk about warmups, cooldowns, etc. I overheard some great conversations including Turnbow talking about his 4-seamer and Sheets talking about his changeup with Maddux. I also overheard some private conversations that I probably shouldn't have.

The dugout radioed once asking for more cups for the Mariner's dugout. I presume that Yost used up their original supply with his coffee addiction?

Schlitz, I was at that game too on 3/6. I'm sitting in the Phoenix airport right now waiting for my flight back to Milwaukeehttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif

You actually captured me in your picture of the Sausages. I'm to the right of the Italians hat (as you are looking at the picture) sitting on the outfiield grass with the white shirt.

I took some pictures too (not very good ones). Will post them when I have a chance (although I have come down with a nasty cold today and I'm not sure how much I'm going to feel like posting pics when I get home).

This is the 6th year in a row that my family and I have gone down to AZ for ST and I notices several things. One being that the I'm disappointed with the Brewers pre-game warm up routines. Every game we were at (home and away), they seem to wait until the last minute to take the field and do their pre-game warm ups and stretching (not talking about batting practice). For example, went to the game in Surprise against the Rangers on Wednesday. The Brewers showed up and then did not do stretching until 15 minutes before the game. At the 3/6 game at Maryvale I noticed that Seattle showed up and immediately started taking infield and outfield practice followed by stretching.

Need to start boarding soon. Will have more observations later.

Thanks for sharing those, BCBF. I see you've got some on that Flickr page from 2007, too.

I hope some others will have the same giggle-to-'Oooohhhh'-moment that I had with this one -

Great pics guys. I went down to spring training for the first time this year and I can honestly say that I have never had a better experience as a baseball fan.

Anyway I took a bunch of pictures and videos while I was down there...

You can see the videos here... http://vimeo.com/evilburn/videos (I'll be adding more as the weeks go on due to the weekly file upload limits)

And all the pictures I took are here... http://evilburn.picturepush.com/album/14180/p-Spring-Training-08.html

Here are just a few of my favorites...
