Best theme songs

jason21nl

pogokat - I thought you would have picked one of Mark Mothersbaugh's many theme songs. Or would that be guilty pleasure theme songshttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif

The Barney Miller song is a good little jam.

i love mothersbaugh, and the soundtrack works he's done is top notch (Rushmore is the high water mark) i don't think to much of the theme to wild thornberries

the bouncing souls did a theme song to some reality show that was on fox for a summer in 2001...and it's a good tune...but i never saw the show...so it doesn't really count in my mind...

shouldn't you be picking a song from the walker soundtrack, mr strummer guy?

Here's a Top 5 that I remember from my youth, either watching original episodes or reruns:

1) Hill Street Blues (might be a competitor for best theme, period)

2) The Muppet Show (who doesn't sing along?)

3) Barney Miller (also great for penalty box incidental music)

4) Hogan's Heroes (turns German martial music into comedic theme)

5) Dallas/St. Elsewhere/L.A. Law (tied for most "80's-ness")

And since I'm a lover of Western art music ("classical music"), the theme to Masterpiece Theatre rates very highly. Also, if you hear the theme to "Prime Minister's Questions" on C-SPAN (for the real political junkies among us).

I'd be hard pressed to find a theme more evocative of the actual show than Twin Peaks.

Others that haven't been mentioned:
Batman - the Adam West show and Danny Elfman's theme for Tim Burton's movies.
Star Trek - Jerry Goldsmith's great movie theme.

Some old roommates and I had this discussion once, and I'm curious what you all think. Keep in mind, there may or may not have been alcohol involved in this discussion.

In the case of animated shows, we came to the agreement that the theme song can determine the success. The Simpsons had a great theme song, and much success. Same goes for Family Guy, even though their success was a result of the underground. But what about Futurama? Bad theme song = no success. That show was absolutely hilarious, and we couldn't think of any reason why it wouldn't be a hit, so we figured the only logical solution is the bad theme song.

If I had Braun's pee in my fridge I'd tell everybody.
