Musical Guilty Pleasures..

pogokat

I noticed in the Nickelback thread that many seem to think hipster hate everything you like (and you is generalized here, but the idea is that if people like it it's not cool...hipsters only like weird crap like moldy peaches)

so, Brian faught back and admitted his love for ace of base...

i want to see some more musical guilty pleasures...

i, for one love Devo..."Whip it" and all...

also, Andrew "It's time to party" WK...

I can't say any of these are guilty pleasures per se, just artists I like listening to that also happen to get played on the radio... scrolling through my album collection: Rihanna, almost anything produced by Timbaland, Bloodhound Gang, Dido, Lynyrd Skynyrd, C+C Music Factory, The Monkees, Korn (the early stuff), Limp Bizkit (the first album), Deftones, Kanye West, Common, Wyclef, Michael Jackson, Joan Jett, Tom Petty, Save Ferris, Stone Temple Pilots, Tool, The White Stripes, Wolfmother.

I also love... LOVE... the Top Gun soundtrack.

Ok, let me just say that no one should feel guilty for liking Prince.

Second that vote for early Nelly Furtado.

Just finished listening to Amy Winehouse's Back to Black. I thoroughly enjoyed not only her voice & songwriting style, but the style of instrumentation employed.

people have often commented to me "what? you actually like John Denver???" uh, yeah, John Denver is cool, to the point that I can't understand why nobody else seems to like John Denver.

that girl who won the first American Idle show, i like her singing.

Roy Orbison was an awesome songwriter.

I like Bonnie Raitt.

Wham!/George Michael

Huey Lewis & The News - had a great conversation with a friend about how everyone's dad owned a copy of "Sports" when it came out, regardless of age or background. His dad is like 15 years older than mine, but they both mowed the lawn listening to that cassette tape.

An A++++ spelling for one of my least favorite things on TV!

Roy Orbison was an awesome songwriter.

He had an ok voice, too, huh? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

I like Bonnie Raitt.

Oh yeah. If it's a guilty pleasure to love Bonnie, add me to the list of defendants.

I'm a sucker for the Electric Dreams soundtrack.

I'm with you, Katuluu. That's good stuff right there. . .I always thought Philip Oakey should have had a better solo career. . .

I was on a long flight recently, bored, and unable to sleep. I was flipping through the in-flight entertainment, and I don't know if it was altitude sickness, or being dehydrated, or what, but I settled on:

Barry Manilow sings hits of the 70s.

It was him largely singing his greatest hits, but there are some other cuts on the album of him doing cover songs from the same era.

I must say, it wasn't too bad, and he really could pen a tune or two.

Ace of Base, Gwen Stefani, Aqua,
I'd agree except that I like No Doubt, but can't stand Gwen's solo stuff. Also, Venga Boys.

But my big guilty pleasure is listening to Disney music, from the animated movies, but especially the theme parks.

Chicago (even the Peter Cetera stuff) - Its all sappy stuff, but it's nice. Kenny Rogers - Terrific voice...one of the all-time Country music greats. Weird Al Yankovic - I sometimes like his covers better than the original songs. His cover of "You're Beautiful" ("You're Pitiful") is awesome Extreme - Not even their hard stuff. "More Than Words" and "Hole in My Heart" are great songs. Creed - Yes, cheesy...but songs you can sing along with. Dave Matthews Band - Whenever I want to revisit my college days, I pop a Dave CD in, and I'm transported back to the days of stagnant weed in the air and a keg of crappy, cheap beer in the bathtub. Of course, I'm not a big alternative, unknown music guy, either. Willy Porter is about as diverse as I get. I had a buddy in college who was a Disco Buscuits fan, but I never got into them.
