Summer appreciation thread

Teatoe993
With this being the worst winter I have ever experienced by far, I find myself dreaming of summer constantly. That one dude from that one Tom Cruise movie once said "The sweet ain't as sweet without the sour." I will be taking advantage this summer for sure. I'm just wondering what the rest of you are looking forward to this summer. Let the daydreaming begin.

Sitting in the back yard, grilling, with an ice cold Miller Lite, listening to Bob and Jim call the action; spending a week in the beautiful Northwoods fishing, jet-skiing, just laying low; playin' some softball; Going to Brewers games with all the sweet smells of Miller Park...I'm salivating...

there is no better feeling than the first couple days of 40-50 degree weather after the cold winter. Seriously just think about it. Its 45degrees, all the snow is melting fast, you're driving down the road with the windows rolled half way down wearing your brewers pull over that you haven't worn since the season ended. You have the radio in your car turned up louder than usual, and you're driving an extra 10mph faster because you're not scared of any ice. Feeling good. The Brewers season is coming up fast, you can see the snow melting off the local golf course. Only a matter of time now. Feeling really really good now.

thats my favorite part of the winter ending

I'm looking forward to softball, baseball, golf, and shorts.

Sunlight after 5:00.
This is #1 for me.

My absolute favorite time of year in in May and early June when it's about 60-70 degrees outside, I have all the windows open, the birds are chirping, people are talking outside because it's warm enough to walk around, the Brewers are on TV, and the sun is pouring in. Aaahhh, I can't wait.

I also refuse to complain on 90 degree days. I quit that a couple years ago and decided to think about how cold the winter is before I complain about how hot the summer is. I love hot weather.

Additionally, my girlfriend likes to wear big bulky sweatshirts and sweatpants in the winter and tight, revealing clothes in the summer. I really really can't wait until summer.

If I had Braun's pee in my fridge I'd tell everybody.

Sorry, guys, I'm going to reserve my right to complain (a little) when it's in the 90s and humid. Humidity really gets to me.

What bothers me more than the cold is the extreme amount of winter precipitation. I hate not being able to walk outdoors at full stride. Last week I was checking the Madison Metro page for snow delays and honestly got nostalgic for non-winter weather upon seeing this picture:

Look! Bare pavement!

Also, it might be different up your way, jazzytrav, but sunset today's at 5:22 PM in Madison. To take those lovable losers to the south out of context, it's gonna happen.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

Driving with all my windows down on a county highway is the epitome of summer to me. I can't wait to partake in: soccer, soccer tennis, Brewer games, no school, Warped Tour, Alumni Pep Band, and most importantly, warmth.

Move South -- I'm kidding. I'm not going to be one of those I live in warmer climates you don't kind of people. I think one main thing with the approach of spring/summer is baseball. It's been warmer here (at least 40s) in Tennessee, but the warmer it gets I'm thinking more and more of baseball. We still get "cold" nights where it gets to 18 and get be in the 30s so it's not like it's an island paradise, but it is different than Wisconsin. I do long for grilling out and of course baseball.

I do relate to the posts about when the snow really firsts starts to melt when it's in the 40s and 50s. I remember playing baseball in the driveway (we had a long driveway) growing up when the snow started to melt. I hope everyone in Wisconsin gets to spring soon -- I was in Wisconsin over the holidays and I have a ton of family and friends there and this year seems quite strange even for Wisconsin standards.

After growing up in Wisconsin, moving away, and moving back, I'm quite happy I've moved away again. I love Wisconsin and many of the things there, but I just couldn't stand the winter. After 1 month, fine...but after November through March of blah, cold, crummy weather, I'll take what I've had the 3 weeks I've lived in Texas any day of the week. I don't care that it will get to 100+ over the summer, and will be humid. I don't have to shovel snow. I can wear shorts in February and not be shivering. I'm amazing at the fact that they're already practicing baseball outside. It's great!

Where did you live before SA? I was in Tennessee this past summer and they had all sorts of heat related problems and record days with being over 100. It's not all that great to be honest, but it's the price you pay. When it gets that humid and that hot -- trust me your not going to do much outside besides walk to your vehicle. I know Wisconsin can get real warm in the summer, but down south it's pretty much a given there will be at least a few weeks where you won't do really anything outside.

Case in point:

The Nashville Sounds usually don't start warming up before a game until about 5 - 10 minutes before the game (granted they do BP, but the starting pitcher at times won't come out until 10 minutes before game time). It's just that hot that it'll take the fluids out of you if you aren't smart. The players will stretch and get as ready as they can for a night game with a first pitch temp of 100 -- I've seen it and it's not pretty. Once the sun goes down it gets more normal, but the first few innings can be just brutal on the starting pitcher.

Sheboygan, but before that, I lived out in Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, Washington. However, from age one and a half to 23, I lived in Janesville and Mayville.

Summerfest and Brewer games, you have a point. Humidity and mosquitoes, I beg to differ.

For instance:

When I packed up my moving truck last summer in Whitefish Bay, it was about 85 degrees and humid. I sweat like crazy. Two days later when I arrived in Vegas and unloaded my moving truck at the same time of day as when I packed it in Milwaukee, it was 110, but I barely sweat at all. No exaggeration.

I'm going to go out of my way and assume that you haven't seen many other cities in the summer. I could be way off base.

Eh. Not a lot, but a handful anyway. I was in Phoenix in August. I was looking forward to seeing the "105 degree heat that doesn't even make you sweat!" I have no idea what anybody was talking about, because that's the hottest I've ever felt in my life. It was brutal.
