Krynzel and Hendrickson: Tradable?

brewerfan82

Quick question as both of these guys have been around in the minors awhile now and don't appear to be in the Brewers long-term plans anymore...

How does the 6-year minor league free agent stuff effect these guys? Do they have to be added to our 25-man roster this offseason to keep them?

If we trade them, does their new team need to add them to their 25-man roster? (or 40-man?)

I view both of these guys as players no longer in our plans, but could still be nice throw-ins for other teams in any potential off-season deals. So I was just curious to the specifics of their current status and how that may effect their tradability this winter.

Thanks!

Once the season ends, there is no 25 man roster, only the 40 man roster. The 25 man roster does not return until final cuts need to be made at the end of spring training. So the Brewers really don't have to make a decision on them until the end of spring training.

I believe the Brewers would have to designate them for assignement if they don't make the 25 man roster. Then they would have 10 days for them to either accept the assignment, work out a trade, or become a free agent.

I'm not sure about the roster implications for a team that would acquire them.

They would have to clear waivers if they do not make the team next April, if claimed, the new team would have to place them on the 25 man. I believe they have the right to be a free agent, which they would most certainly take.

Dennis' dad would know this, I assume.

Right now both Hendrickson and Krynzel are on the 40 man roster and will remain on the 40 man roster until removed either via trade or by being designated for assignment. This means that if they are traded in the offseason, they'd need to be added to their new team's 40 man roster or, upon being aquired, desginated for assignment (in order to be removed from the 40 man roster).

Once ML rosters are trimmed to 25, if both Hendrickson and Krynzel are still on a 40 man roster, they will need to be added to the 25 man roster or designated for assignment. It doesn't matter if they are property of the Brewers or any other team.

If the Brewers (or some other team) designate Krynzel and Hendrickson for assignment while they are on the 40 man roster and they end up being released, I believe they have to clear waivers before they become a FA. If they are claimed by a team during the waiver period, they must be added to that teams 40 man roster (and, if claimed while the ML roster limit is 25, the 25 man roster). If no team claims them and they clear waivers, they are FAs and can be added to any teams major or minor league rosters.

It's possible to trade these guys, too. Remember, we gave up Matt Yeatman and Gerry Oakes (two exciting young hard throwers) for Matt Kinney and Javier Valentin. The Twins made the move, because both were out of options and wouldn't make the team, so they got some young arms rather than getting nothing for them.

Since I can't imagine either of them making the team out of Spring Training, I guess the next questions to ask is, "Which major league teams could these guys benefit?"

Kansas City and Tampa Bay are the only clubs I can imagine taking a flyer on Hendrickson. Pretty much every other major league team has some hope for the upcoming season and wouldn't be able to stash him on the roster if he didn't pan out as a starter.

I could see Krynzel being more valuable as extra outfielder for some teams.

I'd hate to see these guys go for nothing after all the time we've spent developing them.

I do see him as having some value, as he's had serious success in he minors in the past. Still, he'd be a small part of a deal, or traded for a low-ceiling guy in a change of scenery thing. I can't see Krynzel being traded for anything, as I can't see a team willing to put him on the 25 man or trading for him and immediately DFA'ing him.
