2008 Silver Lining Thread

Playmaker13
Oddly enough even though he is not getting many hits, especially extra base hits, Braun is walking more lately. He has walked 7 times in the last 14 days. He high month was 8 before this. He 7 BB and 11 K in that time which is a positive step now he just need to drive the ball a little more. Maybe he is taking something off his swing to make contact, but I doubt it, that does not seem like his style.

I wonder, are teams pitching around Braun because they are less afraid of Prince right now?

My Silver Lining: The Brewers are in far better shape for the playoffs than they were last year at this time. We have a great opportunity to step closer to the wild card this weekend. Go beat those Phillies guys.

Yeah at this point there really is no reason to pitch to Braun. Fielder can't hit a fastball right down the middle right now. I can't believe how many hittable pitches Prince is missing right now. Very rarely are any of his outs even hit hard. Hart isn't doing much better. I just hope our entire offense breaks out of this funk all at once

The Cubs are our best ally right now. They play Astros 3 more times, the Cardinals 3 times, and the Mets for 4. Even if we stink against the Phillies we still have a chance, provided we don't stink it up against the Cubs, Reds, and Pirates, too.

Since I've banned myself from the Vent Thread, I've decided this thread should be my next stop. I know the last 12 days have been very trying, but I think this team has one more hot streak in them. Let's hope it starts tomorrow.

Also, we actually have a 3 game playoff spot lead in mid-September. No matter what has transpired this month, that is still pretty freaking awesome for long suffering Brewer fans. Thirty four years and counting for me.

Awesome. I like & share your faith moof. Couldn't ask to be in a much better situation at this point. Honestly, if you took a time machine back to ST 2008, and told that-time-me, 'Hey, beginning play on 9/13, the Brewers are going to have a 3 game lead on the NL Wild Card', I would pretty much have felt affirmed in everything I'd ever believed in the Milwaukee Brewers. We're in a great spot right now; we should/could have been sitting much lower given how many losses have come recently. I still think Prince has an angry power surge left in him for the regular season.

Is this one of those the enemy of my enemy is my friend things? I guess this playoff race is going to make for strange bedfellows before then end. Russ was right to cheer for the Cubs a few months ago, but I still don't have to like it.

It sucks that at this point I might be disappointed with 90+ wins. I only expected us to win around 86 games, and that was before Gallardo went down. After getting some distance from the season I am sure I will look back and be pretty happy with the season.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

Todd Coffey looked good in his Brewers debut. He kept the ball down and got some ground balls.

We also can finally say a game is a must-win game, because Ryan Braun said so about game one of the DH tomorrow:

"The first game is a must-win for us," said leftfielder Ryan Braun, who snapped out of a prolonged power slump with a home run in the 7-3 loss to the Phillies.

I take some solice in the fact that the poundings the Brewers have endured at the hands of the Phillies, Mets, Cubs and even the Dodgers are a pretty good indication that they just may not be that good. I have a much easier time missing the playoffs when you don't belong there in the first place, then I do if they fail to reach their potential. It is becoming pretty clear that they simply aren't as good as those teams. Combined 9-18 against the teams likely to make the NL playoffs.
