The silver lining with Gagne is that after he blew the 3-run lead there were still no outs. That is a game we would have lost right there last year. Yet Gagne did shut them down after that outside of a bad play by fielder. But I agree with Mota and Riske looking great. After one game I also like what Kendall brought to the table.

Blazer25[/b]]Mota looks like he might have his stuff back.

We have options other than Turnbow...a lot of them.

A quick camera shot of Turnbow yesterday showed him a little upset to be on the pine in the10th. I don't think it's a knock on him, but rather just a testament to how deep the pen really is this year.

Backupcatchers[/b]]It'a amazing how much smarter Yost looks when he has more than two major league level relievers to chose from.

Yeah no kidding. In hindsight the only bad decision he made was probably bunting TGJ in the 9th.

But he did everything right with the pitching. Sheets was taken out at the right time IMO, and it was smart to leave Gagne in for the next batter to see if he could calm down after the homer. I really like our bullpen. It would be huge if we could get some bounce back years out of a couple of our relievers.

If I had to guess I would say that Riske went out in case there was another inning and Turnbow was being saved in case Riske didn't pitch well. Yost probably has more confidence in Turnbow than Riske.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

I agree that the most positive thing I got out of yesterday was that Gagne bounced back after giving up the HR and got himself out of the inning. I just don't think Turnbow would have been able to settle down enough to do that.

I didn't have a problem with TGJ's bunt. Brian and Bill both seemed confused as to why he was bunting down third, but I think he was trying to be able to beat the throw and make it on base as well as advance the runner.

After all the crap I heard out of Mets fans about Mota, I was more than impressed with him yesterday. Some of his stuff was just plain nasty - movement all over the place.

4 new pitching acquisitions took the mound and only one faltered - I was pretty happy with that.

Honestly...I am embarrassed and dissapointed that this thread hasn't been posted in for 4 days...amazing start amazing team and yet everyone fills up that vent thread....Is anyone else appreciating what we have as a team other than me??? Not every guy hits 4 HR and every pitcher throws a perfect game...the Brewers are in 1st place, sheesh

I'm pretty sure that last post could have qualified as a vent! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

But yeah, it sure is nice to start off hot with guys like Hardy and Fielder yet to heat up. And then you can consider we're missing two "key regulars" (Gallardo and Cameron) while possibly missing a third as well (Capuano).

I think we just might be okay, but if I learned anything from last year, it's you gotta' take the wins and losses for what they're worth (one game out of 162).

It's going to be a good one folks!

I know that last year should have taught us something. I know that we were 24-10. I know that we had a 9.5 game lead in late June. I know that we were 9-20 or whatever in August. I know that there are 156 games left. I know we just got finished playing possibly the worst team in baseball. I know that we've got a tough week coming up. I know Jason Kendall isn't going to hit .450. But…

ARE YOU KIDDING ME??!!??

Doesn't this team feel different than last year? Are you at all surprised by this start? Shouldn't we go out there every day feeling like we've got a great chance to win, and in some cases like yesterday, knowing something strange would have to happen for us to lose? Don't we have a legitimate ace in our rotation? Don't we have 3 (once Yo gets back) legitimate really good starters in our rotie? Don't we have a starting 8 that rivals any team in the NL? Don't we have a bullpen that appears deep in veteran, plus arms? Don't we have a lefty specialist that has proven over the last three years to be nearly as good as any in the game? Don't we have a closer that throws 94 with a nasty change? Do we not have an improved defense that should only get better with a 3-time GG winner that we get back in less than 3 weeks? Don't we have 6 legitimate, really solid outfielders? Do we not have 2-3 pitchers in AAA that would've made several other teams? Do we not have one of the top hitting prospects in the game raking at AA, just a year after he was drafted? Do we not have like 5 picks in the first 90 this June draft, and one of the best amateur talent scouts in baseball to make those selections?

You get the idea. This team can win 90 games. At least. Not saying they will. But, they can. This week will be interesting. Cueto and Harang, vs. our 3 worst starters. Then go to the NYM and face Johan. A challenge, to be sure. 3-3 would be fine, 4-2 would be cartwheels. 2-4, not a disaster, but disappointing. This team is so fun to watch so far.
