2008 Silver Lining Thread

Playmaker13
Over the past 7 games our starting pitchers have given up 8 ER, over 53.1 innings for an ERA of 1.36. That is a average of around 7.2 innings pitched per start and it is with Sheets and Sabathia only pitching once.

Despite the fact that we got crushed in Milwaukee by the Cubs we could be within 1.5 games after today. The Cubs seem to be the better team but you never know what could happen with about a month and half to go.

I also had a good laugh yesterday from one of my Cubs fan friends who thinks the Brewers are just god awful based soley on how they played in the Cubs series. Memo to all Cubs fans: We aren't nearly as bad as we played in that series, don't just expect to run away with this thing.

The defense won this game. We don't say that too much around here http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

I honestly would have forgotten how good our defense was this game if they didn't show the highlights.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

My first ever post in the SLT. Bush pitched a pretty good game on the road, Braun looks like he very well could be healthy enough to return as a starter (I was not optimistic he'd play at all in LA), and I just watched a game for the ages with hugely memorable defensive plays that resulted in a win ... meanwhile the Cubs proved fallible. There's silver everywhere....

I am very much enjoying the Brewers season. I just feel sorry for those that can't sit back and enjoy it, which appears to many here. Thousands of posts in the vent thread and only a couple hundred here. The manager should be fired, the bullpen sucks, the manager should be fired, the bench sucks, the manager should be fired, the trainer should be fired, the manager should be fired. I'm just gonna sit back and enjoy the victories that keep piling up.

I agree. It's been a great season so far. A few weeks back everyone was fretting that we'd see the usual "Yost second half collapse." That has not happened, as of yet, so why not enjoy the ride? It will be just another couple weeks, and assuming the Brewers are still holding the Wild Card, if not even further up the standings, Wisconsin is going to have full blown Brewers fever!

Agreed. While at the game yesterday it occurred to me how different the expectations have become. We all remember (and mostly likely) have been to those afternoon games where there are 14,000 people. This team, regardless of how 2008 works out, is just a lot of fun to follow. In-spite of what Buster Onley might think...

Last season, our 20 game pack happened to include Yovani's MLB debut game. I remember walking the concourse during the game, observing the big crowd who all seemed to be 'into the game,' and especially the big buzz that, for once, felt justified. I remember feeling almost giddy.

I've had that feeling again several times this season. The Brewers still don't have quite all cylinders running, and the bandwagon fans are more noticeable this year, but it's exciting and fun to go to the ballpark now, and not only for Brewers nerds like us.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

If in the 34 games we go 20-14 I just don't see anyway that we don't make the playoffs unless someone goes on a Rockies type of run where they win 22 of 23. If we went 20-14, St louis would have to go 22-11 just to tie and Philly would have to go 25-11 to tie. If we could get to 22-12, St Louis would have to go 24-9 and Philly 27-9

If we went .500 the rest of the way ST Louis would have to go 19-14 and Philly would have to 22-12.

Personally I like our odds, but stranger things have happened

21 games over on August 24th. Who would've thought that was possible the day we heard Gallardo had a torn ACL?
Amazing, isn't it? Heck, a lot of people (me included) thought after the injury we would struggle to stay above .500 for the season.

On a side note, Ned Yost has been nearly perfect as of late. His only gaffe that sticks out is the 130 pitch CC complete game, and he made up for that partly today.
