I am starting to think that Melvin is like that dumb guy in your fantasy baseball league that you can trade anything for if you dangle some has-been in front of them. This Gagne experiment has been horrible, and I really can't imagine it somehow rectifying itself.

Maybe we need a separate GM for bullpen moves.

I think this is a very short sighted view of things, there is no way you put either of the last 2 BS on Gagne. He should have never been in the one game and a bad umpire and error caused the second one.

Ok, so I watched the game last night and today. Today we had one error.

By my count...

1. Gross missed a diving catch that probably should have been made

2. Braun missed a sliding catch that definitely should have been made

3. Weeks let one slide right under his glove on a ball up the middle

4. Weeks booted a chopper, let it roll up his arm and threw wide to first base

5. Weeks blew the game by failing to turn a very basic double play. (Edit: Fielder didn't dig out the bad throw)

Last night...

1. Hart dropped a routine fly ball that cost us the game

2. Hart failed to make what would have been a great play on a double high off the wall

3. And I bet I am missing a few from last night.

Our defense looks bad.

The defense was good until yesterday, we were something like +9 using plus/minus. I wouldn't judge the team by just a couple rough games though it is obviously a concern since we were so bad last year.

The defense wasn't the problem last night or today. The walks is what was the problem the last two games. I believe it was about 20 walks in the last 2 games. Thats 10 walks a game that is a lot of walks and a lot of run potential. You give any team in the MLB 10 walks a game and they will score a ton of runs.

Would that be the same Riske that, according to most on this board, would have been the ab-so-lute guaranteed saviour had Ned allowed him to pitch last night instead of TBow?

No, that'd be the Riske that some recognized was the superior choice to TBow. I'm lost without my hindsight goggles!

That "double" that went under Hardy's glove.

Yep. I would have much rather seen Riske last night and Turnbow today when the score was 8-3.

Looks like Mota and Torres are the most dependable bullpen arms. Wow, who woulda thought that?

No reason to jump off any bridges yet. 2 games behind the Cubs yet the Cubs have had only 6 road games and 5 games against .500 teams. Their schedule will get tougher.

Is this not the vent thread? Is this not the forum to expel your visceral reactions to things you don't like and cast them away? I mean if I had said that in a "Objective View of the Bullpen" thread, you're right on. But having said that, I'm still not overly confident in Gagne and most of our bullpen.
