A television show has never made me so upset. I've put enough of my time into this show that I cannot stop watching it, but I've thought it sucked since a few episodes into season 2. It's horrible.

I am guessing that these 8 episodes they're airing were done before the strike even happened, so maybe they didn't know what the situation would be when the first one aired... but tonight was a chance for them to really bring home the bacon. There is NO COMPETITION on TV right now, everyone is watching, and they could've brought in new viewers as well as brought back hope from the doubters. They did not take advantage. Same old Lost. The show continues to bury viewers with more questions while not actually providing any answers to the millions of old questions raised in the past. Not to mention that if you really think about it... NOTHING HAPPENS ON THIS SHOW. It was an hour long and they walked around a little bit and made a phone call or two. Nothing happened. Nothing. Horrible. I'm upset.

SPOILERS (If that's really necessary)

You're absolutely right: dead people showing up to slap you in the face, and then being willed into disappearing is the type of thing that's so commonplace we need not even speak of it.

I'm intrigued by the concept that the Island is calling the "Oceanic Six" back. First off, who are the six? (We've seen Jack, Hurley, and Kate...who would still have those nasty criminal charges....but who are the other three?) Then, considering Hurley went with Locke instead of Jack and Kate....how was he brought back to the mainland?

Jacob's house also played a disappearing act, which was a bit surprising (does it have a set location; shouldn't have been between the beach and where the rest of the survivors were).

My wife and I were into the show the first 2 seasons, then life got in the way, and we missed out on it. My mother-in-law loves the show, so we all watched the recap Wednesday, and then the show last night. It was intriguing, but how in the world does Naomi get a knife in the back and get up and move around?? The Oceanic 6 thing is interesting. We'll continue to watch, since we have a DVR, and are interested, but there's a lot of stuff to get worked out.

I found the idea that Naomi still had some life in her a lot more believable than that she would instantly drop dead from a knife wound to the back. I don't know that the way it played out was very believable, but I could buy the concept. I also appreciate it that even in the end they're painting those on the boat with shades of gray.

I suspect that Desmond will not be part of the "Oceanic 6" by definition. He might have made it back to the mainland, but he'd be considered something else, so no point in considering him when trying to guess the other three. Or any of the Others for that matter. (FWIW, I'm guessing Desmond will get off the island and stay off happily living with Penny. Paralleling Odysseus and Penelope.)

I thought the reactions to Charlie's death were all well handled.

I presume that the people coming to the island are the real Dharma group. They haven't strung out their return too long compared to the long build up with The Others. Naomi didn't appear that long ago and we're apparently meeting their leader next episode.

  • 2 weeks later...

well, tonight's episode was definitely interesting. the only problem was that, with the thick accent, I couldn't quite make out what Sayid said at the end of the episode right before Ben said, "Good."

I'm loving it. Gives me a good edge of my seat vibe. Plus, it's still better than any reality crap.

I think tonight is the first time I have ever gasped at something on TV when they showed Ben as Sayid's Boss. I'm definitely loving this season. I wonder if this is the last Sayid will see of the Island?

The confirmed Oceanic 6 so far is: Jack, Kate, Hurley, and Sayid
What is everyone's guess as to the last 2 members? I'm going with Sawyer and Claire. Remember that members of the Others and also Desmond don't count as they were not on the flight. I also think Michael and Walt are off the island already.

Is there a place to read recaps? I skipped my first episode yesterday. I grew tired of the feeling that nothing significant happens to advance the plot for the first 55 minutes of an average episode, only for something "shocking" to be revealed in the last 5 that does little to answer old questions. I asked my wife for a recap of the episode and she said, "Ben is Sayid's boss after the rescue." I'm guessing that was revealed a split second before the screen went blank and the "muted explosion" sound signaled that it was time to be shocked?

What else of significance happened! Prove to me why I should come back! I want to come back!

I couldn't believe that last scene from last night's episode. As soon as I heard the voice talking, I knew it was Ben, but I didn't want to believe it since Sayid happens to be one of my favorite characters from the show. Man, this season seems to be getting really good (and seems to be giving us just enough information episode to episode in order to keep the audience from getting restless and upset with the show).

Russ,

The best place to go for television recaps is www.televisionwithoutpity.com. They have recaps of all Lost episodes, among many other primetime television shows, with a funny/snarky angle, and detailed message boards where the truly obsessed fans go to discuss everything from spoilers, to different characters, to continuity errors, to the music selections of the different Kate flash-back episodes, etc. A truly great site for any tv fanatic. A word on their scheduling- today, you will find the shortened "recaplet" of last night's episode, giving you the bare essentials. Within 5-7 days, you will find a longer finalized recap, with interesting observations of the detailed scenes, including many funny observations and comments.

In addition, you will find decent, but much shorter recaps on sites such as www.zap2it.com, www.ew.com, and www.tvguide.com. Entertainment Weekly's Jeff Jensen is one of the more knowledgeable Lost writers in the maintream online community, and has many detailed posts regarding the mythology of the island, the Widmore-Paik Industries-Dharma conspiracy theories, etc. that are truly fascinating. Also, there is a huge repository of information at Lost's wikipedia site, www.lostpedia.com, where you can view transcripts of the whispers in the jungle (what they are whispering is actually important), and find out everything you need to know about Cindy the flight attendant, for example.

I consider myself a huge Lost fan as well as a Brewers fan, so it is heartening to know that both qualities are not mutually exclusive. Geeks can like sports, too!

Spoilers

OK, I've spent the last six weeks watching seasons two and three on DVD and now I've finally watched all three episodes of season four on DVR. I really like the new season although it's getting a weird vibe about it - everyone seems to be turning evil. Sawyer is killing people, Sayid becomes an assassin, Jack pulls a trigger on Locke, Locke is nuts, Kate is hot, Claire is hot.....did I mention Kate is hot? Anyway, the "flash forwards" are really interesting and provides a look at how the show will exist once they move off the island. It's almost like two steps forward, one step back with the plot but I like it. I don't need everything tied up with a little bow right now....I'm just enjoying the ride. Now if things aren't explained in the last year of the series, I'll be pissed - but let's cross that bridge when we come to it.

Well, it would seem that one of the "Oceanic 6" is Aaron, Claire's child, only everyone thinks it's Kate's. They said last week that another of the six would be revealed this week, and it sure is something I had never even heard anyone throw out as a possibility before

So far the show has revealed Jack, Hurley, Kate and Sayid as 4 of the 6. That leaves two. I dont think Aaron counts, because even if they believe he is Kate's, he was born on the island and wasnt really a passenger. Same goes for Desmond, Ben, Juliet...

But I'm pretty sure that last week they said this another member of the Oceanic 6 would be revealed. And he could be considered a passenger since he was inside Claire on the plane. And so they could've used that same logic and just said Kate was already pregnant when she was on the plane. Or none of that and they're just lumping everyone who was rescued into the 6. Anyway you play it, I still think he counts as one of the 6. And I think he might be the one that Kate and Jack were talking about waiting up for Kate at the end of season 3. I really don't think Sawyer would be the last one because that's too easy.
This is Jack Burton in the Pork Chop Express, and I'm talkin' to whoever's listenin' out there.

Here's a shot in the dark but I'm thinking there are still two left because like someone else said the baby was born on the island and was not really a passenger. I would put my money on Sun and Jin being the other two. Also this flash forward does not bode well for Claire but it could just mean she gave Kate the baby for some unknown reason. Most likely she is going to die because her love interest is now gone and she really doesn't have much of a story left to tell.

Just throwing this out as a long-shot possibility but what if for whatever reason Kate stole Aaron from Claire (something to be shown in an upcoming episode would obviously have to give Kate reason to do so). It doesn't seem very Lost-ish to give that obvious of a sign that Claire is dead and then not come up with a big twist on the storyline. I wonder if Kate doesn't want Aaron to watch TV because she doesn't want him to see Claire, who is also a celebrity. The obvious guess is that she doesn't want Aaron to see/know about the trial.

Yeah I agree, I don't like it, but I think Claire is toast.

Also, in regards to what Jack said on the stand about Kate keeping the "other 5 alive," the people back in the States all believe this is Kate's baby, so if Aaron is one of the six, then that doesnt mesh with what Jack said on the stand.
