Musicmatch - downloads - licenses, HELP

RayKingsForemanGrill

Hey everyone:

So, long story short:

I had to rebuild my desktop in December to get rid of whatever viruses had found their way in. So, at that time, I had downloaded about just as much music from MusicMatch as I had Itunes. I backed up the libraries and licenses from both on to an external harddrive and there they sat until I got the computer back up and fully running about two weeks ago.

I reloaded the Itunes library without a hitch - but everytime I try to reload all of the music I downloaded from musicmatch (about 15 CDs worth) it says I do not have the proper licenses to play the music... I've tried this on both my computers and it doesn't work... hence it won't let me open the files or listen to the music.

Anyone have any insight? I still have my license backup, but it seems to do me no good - and I really don't want to lose all of that music that was legally downloaded and paid for...

Honestly, you'd have been better off burning your music files (both musicmatch and iTunes) into audio CD's, as you could then have ripped them back into .mp3 files and stripped off all the copy protection (what's known in the tech circles as "the analog hole").

Going forward, you might be able to contact MusicMatch and attempt to regain authorization / re-download your files. By and large, it depends on what DRM partnerships the company had when you bought the music.

Check to see what computers are registered with the account. Your computer might have changed to a new name that is not familiar with musicmatch. Just updating the account this might fix the problem. More than likely, the DRM might need to be reset. Contact music match and see if there is a way to reset the DRM. I had that same trouble when I had URGE.

I have another question semi-related to this topic. Is there a way to convert MP4's to MP3's that anyone would recommend? There are tons when you search on Google but I'm not sure I want to just download them all in hopes of finding one that works.
