In Treatment (8:30 PM CT Weeknights, HBO)

Figured I'd start the thread since the show starts tonight...

I'm really looking forward to this. It's either going to be spectacular or a spectacular failure. Since it's HBO, I'll bet on the former. Even though it's a remake, it's just incredibly amitious, and it has what looks like should be a rock-solid cast. At 45 episodes, it's got the potential to be epic or tedious. With this, and then season two of Tell Me You Love Me coming, HBO is putting a lot of eggs into the therapy basket.

HBO is also showing the episodes on the website, if people are interested and don't get HBO:

Based on the first episode, I'd put it somewhere between the two extremes. The first episode was well acted, but I didn't particularly find the overall plotline that engaging. And, obviously, the dialogue is going to be a very important part of this series and right now I'd peg it merely at "pretty good".

Still, I'm interested in seeing the other patients. And I'm particularly interested in seeing Gabriel Byrne and Dianne Wiest pair off. I have a feeling that Friday is going to easily be the most interesting night.

A lot of the reviews and stuff that I have seen say to watch the first five episodes before forming an opinion, which of course makes sense with six different people having their turn on the couch throughout the week. I'm going to take that advice. I liked the first one, though.

I can't decide if I like this show or not. On the one hand, it's kind of interesting. On the other, I hate the Dianne Wiest character and Byrne's reliance on her is inexplicable.

Also, I think some (much?) of the dialogue is stilted and unlikely, but I think that's to be expected in a show so dialogue heavy (for an example, see any David Mamet play/film).
