Guilty Pleasure - Project Runway (Thread Bumped for the 2009 Finale)

Mass Haas

Is anybody else a fan of Project Runway on Bravo?

Here I am, in all my heterosexual sports fan mentality, getting wrapped up in the challenges these designers face week-to-week. I guess that says something for how well the show is crafted, and the talents these folks have.

If I have one issue with the show, is that I don't necessarily think the most deserving person will win the top prize. It seems the goal is to not finish last each week. Someone who excels in nearly every show yet who stumbles badly on just one challenge can find themselves "out", as Heidi Klum would say. Yet a relatively poor performer who rarely if ever shines manages to stick around.

Jillian rocks this season...

Guilty.

Project Runways is a really cool show. Honestly, I don't care at all about fashion. But watching these people create things - well, its just really neat.

Be it clothes or anything, watching someone create something from scratch is pretty cool. Top Chef doesn't do it for me because you only "see" the food instead of "tasting" it.

Guilty as charged. Project Runway is great and can't help watching it. Love all the Bravo shows pretty much. Just something about how creative they are really gets me.

Top Chef is the only show on television that I watch religiously. The girlfriend likes Project Runway, and I see a few here and there as she watches.

The most important thing to remember is whats on the first page on the credits, that the producers have a say in who stays and goes and will keep fighters, fan favorites, and ratings getters around. There was a bit of a stir about this for the first season of that "next stand up comedian" show or something, the one with Drew Carey.

I must say, based on their collections and the judges' comments, I'm surprised that Jillian came in third. I thought hers was the best overall.

But considering how Christian was consistently good in pretty much every single episode, I think he was definitely deserving of being the winner.

This is the bane of every competitive reality show. And I couldn't agree more with ya, jamie. PR is a solid show, as is TC... but let's be honest, they're basically the same show. Different flavors of ice cream.

I forget which one, but one of the girls is the daughter of one of my wife's colleagues. It was interesting to hear stories about how the producers coached the girls in certain situations (e.g. "ok, we need some scene with a lot of drama here... go").

First bump of this thread for the 2009 California-based season now on Lifetime, with the two-part Fashion Week finale beginning tonight, the 12th --

Season flew by, I've avoided any web searches on spoilers for how Fashion Week went for the three finalists, so please don't expand on that here.

Irina, Carol Hannah, and Althea -- the one bummer about this season is that is was apparent after about eight weeks that these three young ladies, all so talented at 26 and under, were going to be in the finals from the original 16.

Go Carol Hannah - love her personality and modesty -- what a doll!

The "Models of the Runway" follow-up show each week has been less of a guilty pleasure -- vapid. A real reminder the reason this gem is a guilty pleasure is the talent of the top participants.
