How is a bullpen managed?

I really don't know. Do the guys know what probable role they will have when they walk into the stadium, or does the bullpen coach tell them when to warm up, without really having any forewarning. If I was a reliever, I'd probably like to know, going in, that I was going the be, for example, the 7th inning guy, if needed. The closer pretty much has a defined role every game, but the other guys could be on some sort of "rotation" based on how much and how well they've recently pitched.

That is kind of differant with each manager. Some guys like players to have defined roles some like to be more versatile. I'm not sure which way I like better as both have pluses and minuses.

I think players like to have defined roles, but I would prefer a more flexible pen.
