MLK Jr. Day

I don't know if a thread hasn't been started yet due to concerns over where the discussion could go, but if nothing else, it's nice to have today to reflect on the sacrifices so many - not just Dr. King - made (& continue to make) in the struggle with race in our country.

In the past, I did not put a huge amount of thought or meditation into MLK Jr. Day, but I sat down and thought about it for about ten or fifteen minutes today, and it really is incredible what many people persevered through in order to simply secure the equal treatment of their race in American culture -- a struggle that still hasn't come to fruition yet, unfortunately. This day serves as a valuable time to reflect on what our ideals are and what we should be striving to be as families, neighbors, communities, and a country as a whole.

I just got done watching the "I Have A Dream" speech and I think it grows in its power every time I listen to it. He was a flawed, but great man.
