Different kind of beer thread... Tap vs. Bottle vs. Can vs. Plastic

InsomniacInkRoss

In order:

Glass

Can

Tap

Plastic

I don't know what it is about the plastic bottle beer (Miller at least) that just isn't right. I blame the fact that it is brewed in San Antonio and the water is different, I don't believe what they say on the tour that they filter it so it all is the same. Tap generally is just as bad in my opinion, too many ways to screw that up. Dirty lines, bad pours, etc. I have gotten sick off just one or two tap beers, and I blame the lines.

Tap

Brown bottle

Clear/Green bottle

Can

Plastic

Beer should always be poored into a glass whenever possible. Tap is really the only way to get the best beers, Great Dane Crop Circle Wheat.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

My first preference is bottled beer poured into a glass.

Then I would choose a can of beer, provided that I pulled it from a cooler of ice. That scenario is probably centered around a camping trip, or at a backyard cookout, or some other summer activitiy involving a deck, or a big shady piece of lawn.

Finally, I'd take beer tapped from a keg into a plastic cup at a house party. The beer is probably going to be just okay, but its still likely to be a fun time.

The Coca-cola thing could/might be that it is from Mexico where it is still bottled and where they use Sugar Cane instead of Corn Syrup. You can buy Coke or Pepsi in glass bottles from El Rey in the Milwaukee area.
ive also noticed a couple pick n save's on the south side sell coke in bottles in their hispanic food aisles...never looked closely though

I can only find the plastic bottles at a ball game (they don't have them in stores in my AZ town).

I would go:

Glass bottles (dark brown)

Tap

Can

Plastic bottles

Clear glass bottles (MGD)

Nothing

I seem to remember reading an article/study about beer in dark brown bottles compared to green glass bottles (I may have read it here on the boards--but this was a while back). What I got out of it was that the green glass made light do something funky to the beer (but not in clear glass bottles) and semi-ruined the taste.

I think it depends on what you're drinking. For the most part, I would say tap...but that's because the beers that I drink are so much better on tap. I've also always had a strange liking of cans.

So I would say:

-Tap

-Can

-Glass bottle

-I will go far out of my way to avoid plastic bottles, with the only exception being a close Brewer game where I don't want to leave my seat but I really want a beer and a vendor walks by. Even then, I cringe at myself for what I'm doing.

If I had Braun's pee in my fridge I'd tell everybody.

Bottles for sure.

It's all the same beer, yet the container it's in truly does make a difference.

Tappers seem to give me a headache for some reason.

Cans poured into a glass are fine.

Plastic bottles are no good.

-I used to have a neat-o signature, but it got erased.

As for Coke, check out the Ethnic Foods aisle during Passover - they sell kosher Coke made with cane sugar, in glass bottles. So delicious. On that note, I would like to pitch Jones Soda - they make all their product with cane sugar now, almost all in glass bottles, and it's so good it hurts.

Tap definitely. Cans... ugh. Cans are just awful. The next best is bottles imo. If you're at a bar, you need to drink tap. Nothing else. Let the beer breathe. Another soda that is amazing on tap is Mountain Dew. It's like drinking the mana of the gods on Mt. Olympus. Canned mt. dew has to be cold. If it's room temperature it tastes terrible and I can't drink it. Plastic bottles are ok, but it just tastes different to me. Has to be cold!

So I guess: Tap > Glass bottle > Plastic >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>can

I'll second that. I could drink Fufu berry all day long. All of their sodas are just so much better, and also much more expensive. Normally I'll only get it if I'm in a gas station and the one bottle is the same price as a bottle of everything else...or after I get my tax money back and convince myself that I'm rich for a week.
