Brewers Had Inquired about the O's Erik Bedard and Winter Warm Up Notes

TheBrewer

This is not a rumor or possible transaction anymore, therefore I put it in the Major League thread:

Tonight at the Winter Warmup I asked Mark Antansio about Santana and Bedard. I thought I'd throw Santana in there just to see his response, which was the obvious.. but he said Melvin did check into see Bedard who has a resonable contract, but the Orioles wanted Corey Hart or something to that assortment, and as Melvin has said we dont' want to give up that type of player our core guys.

Also I talked to Salomon Torres at great length tonight. I won't go into all the details, but he really didn't like the Pirates, and he doesn't believe that they will be anything special for a long long time, mainly based on ownership, but he also didn't have great words to say about Jim Tracy former Pirates manager. Torres seemed like a really great guy when I talked to him.

Also Jack Z is a great guy big time. He really talked to me at length for a while. Later I saw him at the bar towards the end of the night and he immediately introduced me to the Brewers coaches that were around him and some others. Really personable guy.

That is kinda interesting to me. I remember being in Bradenton in 2005 I believe for a Pirates spring training game and I was sitting in front of some scouts. The talk amongst them was the Torres didnt want to pitch for anyone else and stayed with the Pirates because they treated him so well and took a chance on him. Apparently, the Pirates had a reputation for treating their players well.

He was grateful for the opportunity and said he liked McClendon because he would stick with you and believe in you, but then after that when Tracy was hired he wasn't the biggest fan. He said the first year he liked him and he got the players respect, but then the second year he said their was alot of BS with him and so on and so forth.
