GORD ASH AND JACK ZDURIENCIK PROMOTED TO VICE PRESIDENT POSITIONS

MILWAUKEE - The Milwaukee Brewers today promoted Gord Ash to

Vice President - Assistant General Manager and Jack Zduriencik to Vice

President - Special Assistant to the General Manager for Player

Personnel. The announcement was made by Executive Vice President and

General Manager Doug Melvin.

Ash, 56, whose previous title was Assistant General Manager,

will be entering his sixth season with the Brewers. Prior to joining

the Brewers, he served as Vice President and General Manager for the

Toronto Blue Jays, a post he held from 1994 to 2001. During his

distinguished career, Ash has served on a number of baseball committees

for Major League Baseball on such topics as labor, collective

bargaining, technology, continuing education and minor league facilities

standards.

"Gord's experience and organizational skills keeps our

baseball departments working together so our entire baseball operations

can focus on our championship goal," said Melvin. "He effectively

trains and delegates, prioritizes tasks and provides analysis and

support to many of our key decisions. I have complete confidence in

Gord's role as Vice President - Assistant General Manager."

Zduriencik, 57, whose previous title was Special Assistant

to the General Manager/Director of Amateur Scouting, will be entering

his ninth season with the Brewers. This offseason, he was named Major

League Executive of the Year by Baseball America, becoming the first

non-general manager to be recognized for this honor.

The veteran of 25 years in professional baseball has worked

for four Major League organizations. Prior to joining the Brewers, he

was Director of International Scouting and Special Assistant to the

General Manager for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1999. Zduriencik has

also worked with the New York Mets (1983-90, 1994-98) and the Pittsburgh

Pirates (1991-93).

"Jack's track record with the draft speaks for itself," said

Melvin. "He provides vital information in regard to all player

personnel decisions that have helped the Brewers organization become a

more talented club that will compete for a championship."

Ash and Zduriencik will be in attendance at tonight's Winter

Warm-Up to be held at Miller Park.

Here's hoping it keeps both guys in Milwaukee (esp. Jack) even longer
No mention of additional duties, so this sounds completely like a pay increase/title promotion in an attempt to keep them around. I have been very impressed that Mark A. has put such an emphasis on building a quality front office.

If only the Bucks had a strong front office....*sigh*

If only the Bucks had a strong owner.

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006
