Jacobs Field ----> Progressive Field now.

Cleveland will play home games at Progressive Field (the car insurance Progressive) from 2008 through the 2023 season. Apparently the Jacobs Field naming right expired at the end of the 2006 season. The Indians hope to have all the signage changed by the All-Star break.

(If this was posted previously, then the Yuku search engine needs more tweaking)

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

I was talking about this with another fan yesterday. You'd think they could have at least kept the "Jacobs" part somewhere in the name...like do "Jacobs Field at Progressive Park" or something.

Even without the Jacobs Field part, 'Progressive Park' would roll off the tongue a lot easier..

I guess I've become totally desensitized/adjusted to the ballpark naming phenomenon. On a sentimental level, I think this sucks. On a practical level, I'm glad another small-market club found a way to generate some more revenue. They've gotta compete with the Yanks, BoSux, ChiSox, Angels, etc. in most seasons (well, maybe not ChS for a few years... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif ), so any extra money they can acquire is good!

When I was in college (mid-1980's) at Rutgers, the university changed the name of the basketball arena from the Rutgers Athletic Center (the "RAC," pronounced "rack") to the Louis Brown Athletic Center. I was an editor of the campus paper at the time, and we decided (being the obnoxious college guys that we were) that we weren't going to acknowledge the name change in print. The athletic dept. got really furious, etc., which only made us more obstinate.

Twenty-five years later, people still call the building "the RAC." Weirdly, "the RAC" remains emblazoned on the court, even though that's not the building's official name. I think the university just gave up trying to persuade people.

Who knows? Maybe folks in Cleveland will do that same thing.
