Still interest in Feliz?

derflotr

"The Brewers, meanwhile, could sign Feliz in addition to Mike Cameron if they trade Bill Hall, who is reluctant to move from center field to third base. The team seems intent on moving Ryan Braun from third base to left field, and the signings of Feliz and Cameron would significantly improve the club's defense."

I say the chances of Hall being traded are more then 2%. There is no reason that packaged with our surplus of pitching, and a fwe prospects, that we cant get a above average 3B for Hall. Hall is young, relatively cheap, and put up decent numbers last year, low for his talent, but still good for a CF.

Or maybe we could sign Feliz, and package Hall, Parra, Gwynn, and Gamel for Bedard. Or swing a deal to get Blanton. Hall for Blanton wouldnt be a terrible trade for either side. We havea lot more options now and a lot more leverage with Cameron on board. I dont see Billy on our opening day roster.

I agree with your analysis of Hall's trade value 100%... (welcome aboard!)

Fwiw, he said 10% that Hall is traded, & 2% that Feliz is signed. I like the thinking about getting Bedard or Blanton, but don't forget the trio of Bush/Cappy/Vargas that would surely see at least one of the three included in any deal for either guy. You're right on in that we have a ridiculous amount of leverage with the Cam signing - just one more reason to love it! I do, however, see Bill with the team through 2008 & beyond.

The only way I'd want Hall traded if it is in a package for Bedard and Mora. I don't like the idea of Feliz as our everyday 3B, I just can't get over that .290 OBP, and Mora could be had and is an above average 3b defensively. Since this has little to no chance of happening, I'm more than happy w/ Hall as our everyday 3b.

Thanks. Ive scanned theses boards for about a year and a half now, figured might as well as join and throw my two cents in once and awhile.

Your right, it totally forgot about those 3 in the trade. So add one or two if thats what it takes. I like Parra, but if it could net us Bedard, or Kazmir, Im all for it. Our rotation is good enough to get us the the playoffs, but al serious contenders have a good 1-2 punch, something were lacking, and I personally believe we dont even have the 1 good punch. Sheets cant be counted on, and you cant put that unfair pressure on Villy, Parra, or Gallardo. Suppan is nice, but our defense is nothing compared to the Cardinals team he was on.

My personal favorite idea would involve Seattle and the A's. Throw Gamel, TGJ, and Parra at them for Blanton - their in full rebuild mode and all three of them are super young and could be very good.

Then turn to Seattle and offer Hall, Capuano, and either Vargas or Bush for Beltre(might not be enough) They need pitching, pitching, pitching. Something we have loads of. In hall they get their replacement for Beltre, and we get a bonafide 3B, for essentially decent spare parts.

Our Rotation consists of Sheets, Blanton, Suppan, Gallardo, and Villy

Positions are C Kendall, 1B Prince, 2B Weeks, 3B Beltre, SS Hardy, LF Braun, CF Cameron, RF Hart.

Man i would love that team. No matter how far fetched it is. The defense gets so much better, And the rotation gets much better, and also rids us of some spare parts. we have some many options now, its hard not to be excited.

Smetana34, that seams like a lot of trading for a very minimal improvement. Blanton has a 4.66 ERA on the road, and is a good pitcher but thats a lot to give up for him. I would't give up that much for Beltre either. I think I like our current team better than what you came up with, escpecially w/ having to give up that many prospects.

I like Sheets and Yo as our 1-2 punch. Villanueva, Suppan, and Parra/Capuano/Bush, are all good starters. The only way I would give up that much is if it was for a legit #1 like Bedard or Kazmir.

Both Blanton and Beltre are in the superior AL. I would expect Blantons era to take at least .3 of a dip, possibly .5. Not bad at all. And Beltre adds much more consistent offense over Hall and I will take his D over Halls as well. Im one who believes we have about a 2-3 year window, unless our owner is sincere as is willing to throw bug bucks at Fielder, Hart, Sheets and so on and so forth.

I agree with you though, Id be more then happy with Hall as our 3B if we could add Kaz or Bedard

EDIT - by dip i mean improvement

I would not mind having Beltre, because the guy (from what I've heard) is very good defensively, and would hit better away from Seattle.

Just because we've "fixed" our defense doesn't mean we couldn't make it even better. Exchanging Hall+ for Beltre would do that IMO.

We are still below average defensively at C, LF? (I think Braun can be average, he has a lot of athleticism, but I'll put him down to avoid argument), 2nd, 1st, and possibly 3B (Hall is an improvement, but is he going to play average or better at 3B?)

1B is really a crapshoot. IF we had Pujols, no one would be questioning our 1B D, yet he had 10 E's to Fielders 14 E's. Helton had the best year among full starters with 2. But the gap between the best and the worst, isnt as big as last years usually.

Haudricourt covers two of the rumors mentioned in this thread in his latest blog entry.

"...I just wanted to pass on that general manager Doug Melving assured me last night he has no interest in signing free agent third baseman Pedro Feliz. Readers noted one report that said Melvin was still interested in Feliz even after signing Cameron and moving Bill Hall from center to third base. Melvin assured me that is sheer nonsense."

And

"There also has been talk on the blog about a "rumor" that the Brewers have a deal in the works with Texas that would send Hall, lefty Chris Capuano and another player to the Rangers for "a third baseman and young catcher." Of course, we would be referring to Hank Blalock and Gerald Laird.

I can tell you there is no substance to that rumor, either. Unless Melvin is completely bluffing, and I get not even the slightest feeling that he is..."

i would think the young texas catcher would be teagarden and not Laird. That would make more sense in what the brewers are giving up. i can't see the brewers purueing laird when they have kendall. i can see them pursueing teagarden.

hall, cappy and a top prospect for blalock and teagarden sounds more logical.
