New Year Resolutions. Have you stuck to them? What were they?

brewerjamie15

Not everyone makes a New Year resolution. I usually don't, but this year I did.

I actually started early and I'm still quite pumped up about it and very active toward my goal.

I made a resolution to get in better shape and tone up a bit.

We had already been members of the YMCA but rarely went.

I started going with a purpose just before Christmas and have not stopped.

I got involved with a free program called "Commit to be Fit" and it's going quite well. I can feel a difference in my body and my wife says she can see it.

The Commit to be Fit program is great and allows you to track your progress from home. It also allows you to compare what other people in the program are doing. You get "points" for workouts and exercising. I am in the 88th percentile of people across the globe using the system, in the 96th percentile of all the people at my local Y, and I am ranked #5 for men ages 30-39.

Seeing those numbers keeps me going forward. I'm at this point anyhow, quite intent on finishing the 12 week program and ending up much healthier for it.

i'm not one to make resolutions, either, so i started my new exercise program late November. i've been going to the gym most ever day now, an hour of weights and an hour of cardio. i've also been regularly taking creatine and low-fat protein shakes daily. diet-wise i would say i'm marginally better, with a little less cheese and beer, no red meat and far far less fatty foods.

i understand i'm at the rapid side of the curve yet, but so far i've gained 2.5 cm in my chest and lost 2.5 cm on my gut, which i'm super-excited about already. looking in the mirror there is a good difference already, which has really helped motivate me. my goal is a chest that's bigger than the gut, and i really think in four months or so i'll be able to do it.

Peyton Manning says I can't have 6-pack abs, but I'm doing my best to prove him wrong. i'm really excited about the progress so far.

I have resolved to come to BF.net less(once a week) once the season starts. I think I let the negativity of the board get to me last year and dampen the enjoyment of an otherwise pretty enjoyable season.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

i'm afraid if i ever did that my productivity at work would increase tenfold and that would only serve to raise my boss' expectations.

i remember one regular poster last year said he just never visited brewerfan after a loss. i started doing that, too, and it was considerably less frustrating.

I might try that. The problem, as I see it, is that I have a strong feeling that most of the threads are going to end up littered with Yost insults. It got really bad at the end of last year, and I don't see that changing this year since Yost is still on the bench. The population of the board really increases during the summer also.

sorry to say, but I don't think that would stop no matter who the manager is.

Paul Molitor could become the manager in 2009 and he'd still get ripped here for his decisions.

I don't make resolutions...I find them silly, personally. If I want to do something good for myself, it shouldn't take a "new year" to make it happen. If they do help to motivate some people, then great.

As far as fitness, I have been working out pretty regularly since October...I had been doing workouts consistently before that, but my surgery at the end of this past May derailed me for pretty much all the summer, and then it just took me a while to get back into a consistent routine. I'm trying to cut back on my beer intake (at least on weeknights) a little bit, though that will be hard since my wife got me a Mr. Beer kit for Christmas http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

  • 2 months later...
I'm excited. I'm still with the getting in shape thing (some shape other than a pear). As a matter of fact, after my workout today, I broke the 1 Million pounds lifted barrier. I started in January and besides sickness, I have not missed a workout really. I'm feeling good, and to celebrate, I'm sittin' here eating a bologna and cheese sandwich and drinking a beer.

I didn't do anything this year, but starting with Lent last year I pledged to start working out. I have continued that up to this date, and although sometimes it's only once per week, I still feel like I am doing something good for my body. I've seen a slight increase in muscle mass, and gained maybe 5 pounds, but I am confident that I was able to make a goal and stick to it.

That being said, I think the key to changing one's lifestyle is to go gradually--every time I have gone from not working out to 3x per week, it has only lasted about 2 weeks, and I have gone from extremely motivated to burned out and sick of it very quickly. However, when I started with 1-2 light workouts per week and gradually increased the intensity, it resulted in lasting success. My dad has been working on phasing out caffeine, and he has been doing it over a period of almost a year, gradually cutting out maybe a cup per week every now and then. It seems to work much better that way, and there are essentially no withdrawals to deal with.

In 2006 i went 8 for 8 on my list

In 2007, I lost my list, I know I missed a few though

My one and only this year is to not throw up as a direct result of drinking. So far so good after determining that I had the flu (see my vomiting cherrios thread), and my modest amount of drinking the night before (6 or 7 beers over a 6 hour span) had not been a major factor, if any, in my vomiting.
