And That

I'm sure Patrick will be happy at the return of Omar.

Oh yeah. I agree with your assessment about Marlo, but I think the real encounter they're building up to is Omar vs. Chris, who has been built up as a rather savvy and ruthless assassin in his own right.

Yeah, Marlo is just a thug, but unlike Avon, he doesn't have a Stringer to hide the money and keep things humming efficiently. I hope they make Chris into more of a three-dimensional character, he's definitely one of my favorites as is, but he could be so much more.

The culmination of Marlo v. Omar should be great, and I'm thinking maybe Michael gets involved in this somehow. He's got a conscience, so he's not long for the game.

Is there a chance that Randy is dead? Sometimes snitches get more than just stitches. Maybe he shows up working for Cheese (they have the same last name - are they brothers?).

Hm, I was going to comment on how I wasn't a big fan of his version. I think Season 1 was my favorite.

I think I figured out my issue with it. I dig it instrumentally, but what bothers me is every line is the same melody. There's none of the variation that exists in the other versions.

Anyway...

After just re-watching the third episode - more gutwrenching than Butchie (obviously without saying who it was)? That was sad.

If Michael dies. Man. As much as I expect any charcter with an ounce of goodness on that show to die, that one would hurt.

I just came on to comment on this week's episode when I caught this quote, which I missed before. While I agree that Marlo is a thug, he's been playing it smart & savvy every since they introduced his character, as I think his dealings with Prop Joe have been pointing to him trying to get into Joe's business more than him trying to learn the ropes. Sorry, that may seem like it's easy to say now, but given his dealings with the Greeks the past couple of episodes I felt tonight's ending was plenty foreshadowed. It just happened earlier than I expected, although they need to clear some time to build up the Omar vs. Marlo final showdown, with Lester and McNaulty getting involved as well...

Anyway, what I was going to comment this evening is that Prop Joe is smarter than to deal with Marlo, especially since he didn't heed his own man's advice. He had it coming, especially knowing what he did about Omar fearing the man as much as he did, which didn't make it the final as surprising or as gut-wrenching.

It wasn't necessarily surprising, but just how it was done was what made the impact for me I guess. Total execution.

So, 5-7 are "out there", and to be honest, not much happens. 8-10 must be jam-packed full of actiony goodness, or it's going to be a disappointing season.

Yeah, that's why I said he would kill Prop Joe way back on January 8th. This season is getting kind of predictable, unfortunately. I think it was a good move to end after 5, and avoid the complete lack of quality control that sullied the Sopranos for the last couple seasons.

Back to the plot, Marlo obviously wants the whole pie for himself, what I meant in saying that he's a thug is that he has no "flex", as Stringer would say. He keeps piling up bodies. That'll get him caught, one way or the other. Going to the islands to check if his money was actually there, giving Vondas the dirty money, etc. He has no sense of the logic behind the co-op, etc.

Also, EDR must have been pleased to see Johnny Fifty (Ziggy's buddy from the ports) homeless in south Baltimore. They're getting the band back together!

Yup, there was 5 minutes we couldn't live without. It still seems rushed and contrived. I liked Omar vs Slim 'tho.

We should keep the atmosphere around here "collegial"

And I kid you not, the news director in my current newsroom dropped out of Cal-Davis.

The best scene from episode 8 has got to be the FBI profilers doing their behavior analysis on the homeless killer with obvious parallels to McNulty himself.

Greggs "So what do you think?"
McNulty "They're in the ballpark."

Also in this scene McNulty tells the FBI that the Unabomber's brother ratted him out, possibly foreshadowing McNulty getting ratted out by someone close to him? Just a thought.

They better be going somewhere useful with that, or it's an incredible waste.
I was talking about the short kid, I assume you meant Dookie. Who doesn't love Dookie? Obviously they are drawing parallels between he and Sherrod. Hopefully Prez will show up soon and set him straight.

I will say that "How do you get from here to the rest of the world?" Is the quote of the series.

I thought what Team Canada was saying was they better be going somewhere with why they used the short kid for that. I have a theory but won't share it here yet.

Of course he may have meant Dookie. I'm with you EDR, who doesn't love Dookie?

Anyone have any guesses about who is in the car with Michael in the preview for epidose 9?

That's correct.

I agree, who doesn't like Dukie.

That was indeed a shocker. I was scared that it was going to be someone else meeting their end, and that character dying would have been terribly hack. This was much more like it. I would say that it was definitely the best episode of the season, among in the best in the entire series. This seemed to be that turning point episode, to me.

I wish there were more shows that made you gasp when you watched them. I'm now back to dying in anticipation for the conclusion.

I thought it was funny that before the show the "GV" or graphic violence warning wasn't among the others. I wonder if that was intentionally left off to make others, like myself, believe the show would lack a scene as dramatic as the one people are referring to.

The beautiful thing about The Wire is that it isn't like other shows, and just because the short kid in question did what he did doesn't necessarily mean it happened for any other reason than for how and what happened at face value.

To those that don't have HBO On Demand, enjoy the show tonight http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif.
