Skiing season

Any other skiers on the board?

I just booked a short 3 day trip out to Vail at the end of the month and couldn't be more pumped. I haven't been there for probably 6 or 7 years, but from what I remember I loved the back bowls. I hate lift lines and remember that there weren't any back there. Has anyone been there recently and would have any incite. I know they opened a new section beyond the bowls too. I remember not liking the front side too much mostly because of the crowds. Any tips on how to save money in the town too? I am on a budget so I know Vail isn't exactly the right place to go...I was offered a free round trip plane ticket so that kinda made the choice for me.

Anyone else have a ski trip planned or been out west recently?

Vail's bowls are really nice. Definitely the best part of Vail.

If you don't like the excessive crowds, I've always been a fan of Copper. It has gained in popularity a lot over the last couple of years, but in my opinion their bowls rival Vail's and you used to be able to get away from the huge crowds without too much effort.

I made it to Steamboat last year and the year before which was a nice change from my usual Summit County get a ways. I don't have anything planned for this year, but am considering throwing together a late season trip to Sun Valley. Whistler / Blackcomb is also really tempting me...

I've snowboarded for the last 14 years, but am still a competent skier. I'm trying to teach my girlfriend to ski this winter, but the weather hasn't exactly cooperated. Right now the problem is that I don't know many other avid skiers / snowboarders, so it is hard for me to find people to go with.

edit: A-Basin is really nice if you like a more "natural" mountain. Telluride is a bit of a haul but is worth it if that is the type of experience you are looking for.

I lived in Denver for a couple years. I really liked to go to Keystone and take the lift to the outback. From there we would hike out of bounds for some awsome deep powder skiing. But i definitly think it's hard to beat Vail and the back bowls.
