Luis Gonzalez insterested in brewers (merged with Gonzalez to Brewers?)

Hate to say it, but it seems like a lot of players the Brewers are rumored in acquiring this off-season, and even some they have acquired (Kendall, Gagne, Torres, etc) would have been much better pickups two or three years back. I really don't think the Brewers should have interest in an over-the-hill guy like Gonzo. I mean, even Rolen, while I would like to see him as a Brewer, is probably not an ideal pickup at this point, unless he can really make a big turnaround. Basically, I think Gagne should be the biggest gamble they take this off-season (and he already is by far at his price tag, but it's only one year).

I would rather stick with Gross over Gonzales. That's without taking money into account. I don't think Gonzo is a big enough step up offensivley to make up for the defensive downgrade he would be from Gross. To be honest I would rather stand pat than sign one of the free agent outfielders available.

I think gross is better than Gonzalez period. In every way. Please, please, please no Luis!

To me the best option among FA outfielders is neither Lofton or Gonzalez but Shawn Green.

Although he's right handed, Shannon Stewart would be my 2nd choice. He hits righthanded pitching well enough: .298/.350/.406 in 07; .299/.358/.443 lifetime to play everyday out there.

The best on field fit is Barry Bonds, but that will never happen. I'd love to know what the offense would project as with him in the lineup though. Best in the NL? Weeks, Hart, Bonds, Braun, Fielder would be as scary a 1 - 5 as there is in baseball.

if the brewers were to signs bonds, could we call him Mr 3000? because that's the only reason bonds would come back and play. I bet bonds would willing give back 500 of those walks if he could have converted 1/3rd of them into hits.

I agree with Robert. For the right money I'm for signing Bonds. I'd play him 81 games, mostly against other teams nuimber 1 and number 2 pitchers. We'd be devastating. It might not get us the playoff, but boy oh boy, talk about being the center of attention.

Mr. 3000? Bonds is roughly a third of a season away from surpassing 3,000 hits - and he's still clearly physically capable of being a dangerous hitter. He has 65 hits to go, and will likely get that with ease wherever he ends up for 2008.

I'm pretty sure Barry wouldn't trade his ML-record BBs total for any hits. He doesn't need to to reach 3,000... and his career OBP has helped to make him arguably the greatest offensive player in baseball history.

If we can't find a suitable 3B fix, honestly I'd be in favor of signing Bonds. No leather recliners in the clubhouse, no special treatment beyond his health requirements, but that lineup is riDICUlous. If Braun has to stay at 3B, you have to maximize the offense as much as possible. You'd still be able to play Braun in LF quite a bit, not to mention Gross & Dillon (Joe at LF & 3b).

Id like to see a line up like that. Couldn't field a lick, but that line up would mash all over the place

I think that if you keep Braun at 3B, you have to just commit fully to offense. The d would still be so bad, you'd have to go all-in on the lumber. I hate Bonds. But if that'd end up our situation, he's the obvious best choice. A career 25.1% HR/FB guy playing in Miller Park...

Oh, and he's projected to draw some BBs, or something.

That would be just fine with me. Those are two darn good backup players. If the chance to move Braun off 3B isn't there, you have to just put all your eggs in the offense basket. Bonds is clearly the most productive player that could be had via FA, and fits our lineup's needs perfectly. It's probably about 99.99% to not happen, but if it did, that lineup would shatter franchise records.

Well I've always said the best way for Barry to at least ATTEMPT to salvage his name is to go to the team of Aaron...kinda...and bring them a pennant. I would hate Bonds, up until he donned my favorite uniform. I cheer....for the uniform.
