Has anyone here ever had an interview with Derrico Computers?

aracko

I have a job interview this evening. The company I interviewed with yesterday is now having Derrico Computers call me for a "Technical" interview.

I am confident in my skills, but I would still like to be prepared for the interview. Supposedly the interview is over the phone and takes about 30 minutes. Has anyone ever had one of these interviews? How does it work? I am NOT asking for answers or even the questions ahead of time, I just do not want to be caught off guard by expecting something totally different.

Thanks in advance.

I guess I find it somewhat odd in a way that the company I am trying to get hired with is going to a 3rd party for a "technical interview".

I also wonder how you can take a Technical interview over the phone. These things require a thought process and time. Are they multiple choice questions?

I've had third parties conduct technical interviews before, but I'm not sure which company did it. Most technical interviews are open-ended questions to see how your thought process works and how well you can explain a given topic. I've never had one that was multiple choice.

What kind of job is it? Programming? Networking?

I once did a technical phone interview with Stats Inc for a C Programmer position. I always wonder if that would have spoiled my love for stats... I mean, working with things as a job can often ruin things. You know, you get sick of the subject, a job is a job and then you associate that with the thing you enjoyed before, etc

Brian's advice is - as usual - spot on. When I would conduct technical interviews at my previous employer, that's exactly how I would gauge their responses.

I'd give more consideration to people that gave answers that were tied into their work experience (i.e. explaining how they developed a site for, say, a real estate company) and were able to be clear and concise with how they were able to relate that experience to an answer. Obviously, if they ask something like "what is a data structure" you can't say "well I had to use a linked list this one time..." Well, I mean, you could but I don't think the interviewer would appreciate that. Now if they said "give us an example of a factory design pattern," then by all means tie it into your work experience.

Not to put pressure on you or anything but... my agent wants me to say that phone interviews are being used more and more as a large component of Just-In-Time hiring models.

So what kind of position are you interviewing for?

Great advice guys and sorry it took so long. The position I am going for is a Z/os Mainframe Operator position. They were not able to get the interview scheduled for last night but they instead scheduled for Monday evening.

I think I have decided not to worry about it. I have spent 8 years in this very position in a different company, so I know more than most already I would believe. I have a job that pays the bills now so there are no worries. I just get the feeling that this is a wonderful company to work for so I am nervous that I am going to blow it.

As far as just in time hiring - I dont quite understand the whole theory........I dont know why that would put additional pressure on me if that is the case. I would hope to get thrown in the fire and told to sink or swim no matter where I go.
