Baseball Simulation Games

TerraceReserved
I've recently just got an interest in playing some type of sim game, and was wondering what bf.net would recomend. I've never played anything before, and am curious as to what is good out there. Stratomatic, Diamond Mind? Is the classic stratomatic board game worth it? Anything else?

Baseball Mogul or if your looking to pay 30-40 dollars, OOTP is really really good. OOTP allows you so you cannot send players down unless they clear waivers, it has player options built right into the game, it has free agent comprenstion built in and FA's sign sometimes for less depending on there morale and stuff like that. Mogul is 20 dollars, OOTP 35-40 and OOTP is ten times better then Mogul and its ten times more advanced.

Edit: Wow just looked at the price its only 19.99 you can also hire scouts and coaches find more info here: http://cms.ootpdevelopments.com/index.php?page=ootp-baseball

Mogul is nice, but rather simplified. OOTP is great, but sometimes is too complicated and may become tedious if you're really ambitious with your baseball universe. (Like I am. I'm running a historical-fiction universe in which the Federal League survives.) But that's what's great about OOTP - you can do pretty much anything.

I recommend OOTP if you want to get hardcore about it (multiple leagues, customizable league totals, finances, historical sims, etc.). But there is nothing wrong with Mogul either, you can load that up and play instantly. I personally started with Mogul, but find OOTP way more enjoyable and its online community incredible.

I have not played, nor know much about Diamond Mind or Stratomatic. I'd be interested in hearing about them as well. I know Pitch League does Diamond Mind. Is that real-time?

Our league currently uses Diamond Mind, mostly because we used to use Pursue the Pennant board game and the makers of that game make Diamond Mind (Dynasty League is just like PTP, but we didn't like it as DMB came first).

It's very detailed and is, reportedly, the most accurate sim on the market. It's not big on graphics and bells and whistles but it is very very good. There is probably a reason why ESPN and many others use Diamond Mind for their simulation articles.

Please be aware that they are doing their yuku move this week, too, so this link may not work

I'm a big fan of APBA. They've been around for years, and have a pretty loyal following. I've been playing in a league for more than 20 years. It's a good head-to-head game and you can buzz through games quickly and have pretty accurate results. I've also played Strat-o-Matic (computer versions of both), in the past, and found it to be fun as well.

APBA hasn't upgraded their game system in several years due to some licensing issues with their game developer, but in the past year, they reached agreement and will be releasing a new version of their Baseball for Windows product in the future. They've been issuing season disks all along, but their current game system isn't what it could be.

Who here would want to help me run a OOTP league? Also who here would be intrested in joining a OOTP league. We need a commishner but it will be on a mogul site and all 30 teams would be open. OOTP is a lot better then mogul and it allows you to have comprenstion for Fa, FA's sign for less money in some cases and you will see everything like stats, batting, vitals on a seperate site. Please give me your email and say what team you would be. Either say you would be intrested in joining or if you would be intrested in simming and commishning the league. Thanks
