Seeking short trip help!

JumpinMacFlash
OK, I was talking with my girlfriend tonight. She lives over by Milwaukee and I'm west of Madison, we both go to Platteville and we were talking of taking 3-4 days off before classes start and going on a mini-trip to relax. There's a couple things, we were thinking no more than 5 hours of travel time because we want to utilize the time we have. We also can't have it be too expensive. We're both into doing outdoorsy things like hiking and such, and were looking to just spend some time together. I'm reaching out to Brewerfan nation for help and suggestions! Please feel free!

I was thinking maybe Door County, but I've lived in Wisconsin all my life and I don't think I've ever been there. What all is there to see and do?

I really like Platteville a lot. I didn't think I would but it's worked out great. When did you go and what was your major? I'm comm tech and an editor for the Exponent.

Door County has five state parks, which could be advantageous if you like 'hiking and such'; and although your lodging choices are fewer, this time of year is probably about as "off-season" as you can get (thus less expensive, I'd think).

Plus, if you're a Wisconsin native and have never been, why not go at least once?

As an alternative, you could stay in Green Bay and make Door County a "day trip" option. Whether that's more driving than you'd want is for you to determine.

Edit: One of the parks is accessible only by ferry, and so not in winter.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

I tried skiing once, and I almost killed myself a couple times, so that's probably not my bag.

I looked at the state parks and I'm thinking that's probably going to be one of the days. And actually the prices don't seem too unreasonable for what we've been looking at since it is off-season. I think that's where I'm looking at going.

Thanks for the help everyone! If you think of anything else that might be helpful, let me know. I really appreciate it.

There's a really cool Irish Pub in you can stay in that's reasonable, you get a whirlpool tub room, super nice and drink tickets and breakfast. Plus, the food in the pub is spectacular.

Do the Lambeau Tour, go to the casino .. there's lots to do there. Message me if you want more details on the inn.

You could also do a LaCrosse/Twin Cities trip. The scenery along the river is gorgeous and LaCrosse is fun and quaint. You can do brewery tours or outdoorsy stuff. Grandpa's Peak in LaCrosse is a must do if you're there - the view is spectacular. The Twin Cities has more of the "fun" city stuff to do.

I'd suggest hiking the bluffs at devil's lake. You could stay in the Dells if you wanted and do any number of other things around there.
