Wii Game recommendations

bbrauch2000

Just got a Wii finally and was looking at a few games but i'd rather not buy a dud

Anyone played Showtime Boxing or The Show? Those are the two im looking at right now. Otherwise, is there a better sports game i should be buying?

Also, how is the Zelda game?

Buy Mario Galaxy

I wish I had done that instead of Mario Olympics -- which the kids seem to like Wii Sports as much.

Does Mario Galaxy have multi-player capabilities? -- or Zelda, Mario Paper?

The kids love Guitar Hero -- This morning my son was battling Slash, after dispatching Tom Morello and Satan.

Mario Galaxy has a "parent/child" mode where one person can aid the other... I'm not sure as to if it's meant for little kids or what, hopefully someone else can chime in. Zelda is single-player.

Mario Galaxy's well-tailored for the young folk, so he shouldn't have too much of a problem -- besides, the fun of video games is that they DO frustrate us a little bit.

Other recs for a younger kid would be (as I said before) Mario Strikers and Super Monkey Ball. Wii Sports is also great for little kids, but that comes bundled with Wii, obviously.

Thanks for the help -- I am not a gamer. Wii Boxing will keep me fulfilled for the next 10 years.

Yeah, until you figure out the little trick about juking... then you just dominate. There NEEDS to be a great boxing game to come out for Wii, that thing is just an adrenaline rush for the first few weeks.

Will my smart 5 year-old be able to succeed on Mario Galaxy, or will it frustrate him? Any recs for a 5-8 y/o?
I think he'll get by most of it, but there are a couple tough spots with the control scheme and coordination between both hands and pointing to the screen that can be tough. As I say that though, I realize that often times the kids are better at this stuff than adults. Your 5 year-old would probably love Mario Party.

I'm a bit torn -- I could easily recommend Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn for the Wii, or I could recommend that people pick up the prior game in the series (Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, a GameCube title which can be played on Wii.)

Provided you can find a copy, I'd recommend the GameCube game....since the Wii game is a continuation on the GameCube game (including the characters). Not to mention, presuming you can find a used copy, it will cost less (if turn-based strategy just isn't your thing).

The difficulty and strategic thinking probably isn't a good fit for a 5-year old (although I would probably resent that notion if I were still five).

Since no one's mentioned Resident Evil 4 yet I'll get it out there. Godfather was my other favorite, those are both one-player. It's been a couple months since we tried anything new because we got a 360 around then.

Also if you have wireless internet in your house, it's probably worth it to get your Wii to find it (should take under 5 minutes) and check out the Wii Shop. You can pick from a bunch of old games for $5-10. Over the last year we probably got about as much mileage out of those rereleased games as from the full-priced new games.

I'm probably in the minority, but I can't give Zelda a super high rating. Sure, parts of it are awesome, but there are plenty of stupid or frustrating parts for me to give it just an average rating. Overall I had fun playing it and would recommend it, but it's definitely not a 10 in my book. Probably a 6.

Mario Galaxy rocks, to be sure. That's a 10.
