Battling Brewer Boredom

Blockbuster Blues:

In order to pass the down time at this point in the offseason, how about a thread in which we discuss
only hypothetical blockbuster trades involving our Brewers? I'm talking the 'mortgage the future for 2008' kind - just for fun.

Try to be sure that any deal you propose would actually be a fit for the other party, too. So - a 'Sheets + Fielder to Atl. for Teixiera + McCann' deal wouldn't be cool, since the Braves would have such a huge hole to fill at C, they likely wouldn't swing that deal.

While discussing the pros & cons of any deal, let's keep in mind that this is intended to be a place where you can propose ideas/players that you'd otherwise never seriously consider. So keep it friendly when responding to someone's idea.

That said, though, when proposing an idea, do your best to make it a fair exchange for both sides. Do your homework on guys (including salary considerations if relevant) - so no 'Fielder + Hardy + Sheets for A-Rod + Jeter' ideas, since the salaries in play don't really work for the Brewers. This thread will hopefully have legs until a real deal actually goes down.

Here's my first idea:

Sheets/Villanueva/Hall/Gamel to NYM; Wright/Beltran/Heileman to MIL. I'd include Kapler if the Mets insisted. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

i don't have one off of the top of my head, but this is the time of year that sucks to be a baseball fan. The season has been over for 2 months. Most of the big free agent signing and trades have happened and we still have about 6 weeks till pitchers and catchers report. news and rumors are just few and far between as they were only 2 weeks ago.

Actually The Braves have a really good Catching Prospect coming up that made Saltamaccia very expendable...so McCann could be a guy that gets dealt around the trade deadline

Who is this prospect? I recall the talk somewhat from the time of the Teixeira deal, but can't in specific. He'd have to pretty much be tearing up AAA-ball this year for McCann to be a candidate to get moved at 2008's trading deadline - the Braves will be good again in 2008.

How about we strike a deal with the Pirates. Yah yah, I know, inter-division.....but here it goes anyway.

Pirates give: Bay (can he play RF?), Freddy Sanchez (to play 3b) Damaseo Marte

Brewers give: Hall, Gamel, Escobar, Bush, Mota, TGJ. I'd even sub Villenueva for Bush if need be.

The crew can play Sanchez at 3b, move Hart to CF and play Bay in RF.

Actually keep Bay in Left and move Braun to Right...Braun has a good arm... and with Laporta coming up and cracking the lineup maybe in 2009 or 2010... he would HAVE to be a Left fielder because his arm is not that good... So I say keep Bay in Left and then jsut have Braun work out in Right....

Parra, Villy, Gamel, and Hart for Blanton, Swisher and Chavez.
I would not do this deal because I love Hart and think he will be a total stud, but Blanton goes into the rotation, Swisher goes to right and Chavez goes to third. Beane clears salary and aquires two MLB ready starters and an absolute future stud in Hart, plus a top tier prospect. Any real potential blockbuster that the Brewers pull off I think will involve Sheets, but I thought I would think outside the box a little bit.

Puke Blanton is Terrible.... NO thanks...

He is the product of a very friendly Pitchers park...Plays against the Ms... another Pitchers park... I think the Angles park is league average...and then a bad Offensive team in the launching pad at Texas..

Look at Mulder and Zito.... they leave pitcher freindly oakland... go to the NL..where the trend is your Era drops about .25 points....and their ERAs go much higher...

I would take Chavez... but not for all that you are giving up... and No thanks to Swisher as well...

Like I said, I wouldn't make the trade, but Blanton is far from awful. He is a horse who has made over 30 starts in each of his three big-league seasons and is only gonna be 27 next year. I don't think the Crew will acquire him, but someone will give up a couple of good young players for his services. Swisher is guy I actually would like to get although I wouldn't trade Hart straight up for him, switch hitter that carries a really good OBP with some pop, tough to find.
