Favorite Movie

Glennron

It's almost 3:00 AM and I'm bored as all heck so I thought this would be kind of a cool topic. It doesn't necessarily have to be the greatest movie, in fact in can be considered crappy by most people. Just say what your favorite movie is.

For me I'd say Pulp Fiction, with Dumb and Dumber coming in at a very close second.

Goodfellas is easily my favorite movie. It's a shame that this didn't win Best Picture and The Departed did, because I feel like people are going to consider Departed the hallmark of Scorsese's career when it really is an inferior film.

There are countless iconic scenes in Goodfellas, and I really like the unconventional camerawork and staging in certain parts of the film. Like the scene where they are walking through the kitchen at the club, and the one where they have to dig up the body amidst the red light of the car's tailights. Not to mention at the end where Ray Liotta "breaks character" and leaves the witness stand to address the audience. All memorable and unique ways to present a story. Plus the acting and soundtrack are top-notch.

Edit: Almost forgot - the entire "May 11th, 1980" sequence is brilliant.

(As an aside - here is the main reason I don't especially care for "The Departed". I am a big fan of how rock music is used in modern films. There is a scene where Matt Damon and his woman are talking in his condo, and the song "Gimme Shelter" by The Rolling Stones is playing in the background [as it always seems to in a Scorsese movie]. Midway through the scene, for whatever reason, Scorsese decides to just re-queue the song to the beginning again. What the heck? Isn't that just extremely lazy? I mean, it seemed like he had a CD that skipped or something. Am I the only person that was bothered by this?)

Caddyshack - hands down.

High Fidelity
This was on last night on VH1 Classic. It had been a while since I saw this movie. It really is pretty good, although I think there is just a little too much of the talking to the audience shtick. I have always been a big John Cusack fan and I think this was probably Jack Black's finest hour on film. The conversations about music and the "music snobbery" are classic.
