Worst Rock Band of All Time

homer

Nickelback, Coldplay, Creed. There's my three-way tie for first place.

Three unique frontmen, one unified vision: To fill their albums with the musical equivalent of a mosquito buzzing in your ear.

Daughtry, depending on how he does with his follow-up album (sadly, yes, there most likely will be one), could fall into this category as well.

Wow, Toby... "pleasant" is not the first word to come to mind when I hear Coldplay.

I find Chris Martin's brand of whineyness to be StrongSad-esque.

I will give you Parachutes. Just like I will give you Nickelback's early albums (The State and prior). But wow... both groups have become some kind of terrible since then. I wouldn't wish a concert with those two back-to-back on anyone.

My worst Rock band is Red Hot Chili Peppers. They are played all the time on Milwaukee radio (102.1), but their songs are the same crap they were writing back in 1990. I just don't see the appeal.

oh yes, I hate them too... Flea is the guy that I can't stand to look at, or listen to.

forgot about these bums.

Looks aside he is one of the greatest bassist going today. Listen to some of the early RHCP stuff and tell me who is a better bassist right now? Their couldnt be more than a handful?

On another note turborickey you my friend are quickly becoming my Skip Bayless on this page, not trying to insult you just saying that I rarely agree with you but I always read what you say and you make me think, but hey thats what a message board is all about.

well, when it comes to music, I am deeply opinionated, always have been, however, I do not take it personally when someone comes out and slams KISS, my favorite band of all time. People tend to take it personal when you say you don't like their music, band, singer, etc, but it isn't the same thing as saying YOU suck, just your musical tastes...lol

Anyway, you comment doesn't offend me, and yes, these boards are for providing the basis for new thoughts, glad I can assist you in that department...

Putting your left foot on a monitor speaker, in leather pants and a muscle shirt, singing, 'Can you take me higher?' to 100,000 people? That's not cool. That's boring. You're obviously doing something wrong."

I'm pretty sure Ryan Adams and most anyone else would love to have a crowd of 100K to perform to.

Not at the cost of artistic integrity, no, they wouldn't. Though some people would, and that's where generically poppy music comes from.

Pleasing the masses is definitely how great art develops.

I think we all need to realize that Kiss sucks. But I'm just the guy who writes harsh thread titles.

whatever gets you through the night man...

still bitter about the "harsh thread titles" line eh?

sorry man, didn't mean to ruffle your feathers.

"People listen to lyrics? Who knew?"

I do. Sorta thought that's why people wrote them.

Coldplay's music is pleasant, if not entirely satisfying. I have really enjoyed their first album, "Parachutes", in the past tho I confess I haven't listened to it all the way through in years. I don't get the bad rap they get - they seem too light and airy to piss anyone off.

I agree with this statement...maybe they're overexposed, whatever, but Parachutes is a darn good album and they have had some singles that have been downright catchy. And their live show is pretty good as well, lots of energy. And they sampled Kraftwerk, so there's a plus.

I don't know if I get the U2 hate either...War is a pretty strong album, and while they've declined over the years, I still think Achtung Baby has some really good stuff on it and I'll always be a sucker for Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me (oh nostalgia aka Batman Forever {terrible movie}).

Anyway, Nickelback at least make sense. They're really not a good band at all, and that Heroes song is probably as bad as anything I've heard in the past decade. And anything Scott Stapp related as well. I had forgotten how bad he is. Has anyone seen the Creed video for Bullets? Watching that video is like being insane and having your head smashed with a rubber mallet. I'm also on board with the Eagles. Can it get any more whatever?

Hey, I like a crafty, intelligent, thought-provoking lyric as much as the next guy, but if you strip most of the music of the last 50 years down, the lyrics are not gonna break a band. If that were the case "she loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah" would have killed the Fab Four off right there!

I've always looked on the voice as just another instrument in the process of making music. If that were not the case wouldn't anyone have a hard time liking bands singing in other languages - or the Cocteau Twins!

And if lyrics matter that much, most rock music would be screwed, since the list of intellligent, thought-provoking lyricists in rock is not as long as the list who write about girls and cars.

Just because you have a lot of fans doesn't mean you make good music, it means youre filthy dirty rich, but it does not mean you make good music!

true, but it does mean that a lot of people like you, correct? To get filthy dirty rich in that business, you have to sell product. If people hate you, you won't sell, therefore, unable to get filthy dirty rich. If you sell, then people must like you, which leads to filthy dirty richness.

capice?

People like Soulja Boy and all that emo stuff thats big right now, but there isnt any way thats good music is it?

agreed, but if the masses like it, it has to be good on some level, or maybe the masses are mentally challenged?

I hear what you are saying, and for the life of me, I have never understood the crazes such as the "macarena", "achy breaky heart", or the baha men's "who let the dogs out," but crap like that appeals to someone, or it wouldn't get the exposure...

sad world isn't it?

It just means "never underestimate the power of large groups of stupid people".

Heck, 60% of the population voted.....nah, I'm not even going there...

The problem is that you can't define good music. Some people think good music is someone singing and playing guitar, while others might think good music is someone rapping offensive comments over a beat.

Personally, I think rap is crap music, but there are certainly quite a few people that would disagree with me.

good/bad is subjective

i hate the rolling stones...does that make them bad? nah..

i also hate kiss...it's pointless party music akin to reel big fish (who i like) or wham! (which at least one of you likes, admit it...) but that doesn't make it bad...

many hear are quick to dimiss music because it's too popular...

many are quick to dismiss music because it's not popular...

both of these arguments are polarizing with the purpose of getting someone at your back...

anyway, i think this is fun discussion..but you can't declare anyone right or wrong here...
