The Leader of the Band is a very touching tribute to fathers.

A friend of mine played guitar on one of Fogelberg's tours, at the height of his success. He told me Dan was tough to work for, always making sure everyone knew who the star was.

He said Fogelberg was extremely talented, but that he took himself far too seriously. One night he fired his drummer twenty minutes before the show, so they announced a very special all-acoustic set, with all of the musicians seated on stools - the crowd thought they'd been given a special treat, and they loved it.

the guy wrote some great songs, like them or not.

thread title is a bit harsh, after all, the guy is dead, and I am sure that there are a lot of people around the world that DO care...

He was no Kevin DuBrow (lol), but deserves respect none the less...

I don't think even St. Peters gonna have mercy on this guy. He's going straight to the fires for putting us through that crap. "Same Old Lang Syne" alone sealed his fate. The fact that that song is played every holiday season is pure torture.

looking through my iTunes, it appears I have 2 of his songs, though 1 of them is on 4 (!) compilation albums I have. Listening to them now, I don't recall ever hearing either of them before and I'm not impressed. That said, any time someone dies, I feel bad for them. After all, dying is the one thing all of us have in common and I am not looking forward to it. I can't imagine Fogelberg was either, though I guess you never know.

I CARE !

I liked his music. I own about 4-6 of his cds. then again, I went to a Celtic Woman concert last month and a Barry Mainlo live concert a couple of years ago and liked them as well. There are a lot of people who like his music and who also like such artists as Olivia Newton John, Air Supply, Karen Carpenter, Harry Chapin, John Denver, Enya, David Arkenstone, James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Manheim Steamroller's non Christmas related Fresh Aire CDS, Johnny Matthis, Simon, Garfunkle, and Simon and Garfunkle together, Donny Osmond, kenny G, Prarie Home Companion, Josh Groban, and National Public Radio.

many people probably remember his Christmas related song - Same Old Lang Syne.

The leader of the band and Longer were probably his two biggest hits. Run for the Roses, Rhythm of the Rain, make love Stay, Believe in Me , heart hotels, the power of gold, Language of love and Lonely in love all became pop culture standards. Much like Harry Chapin, Fogelberg's songs tell a story. You have to actually listen to the entire song and the words to appreciate the song. the leader of the band was actually an autbiographical account of his father who was a high school band director in Peoria, IL. Although he was not eric clapton, he was one of the best folk acoustic guitarists. Behind the public eye and the stage, he dedicated much of his life and his money for the improvement of the life of the American Indian and animal wildlife conservation. He gave a lot more to his fellow man and to this Earth than he ever asked for in return.

As for his age, he was younger than Mick Jagger, Bob Dylan, Johhny Cash, Willie Nelson, Paul Mc Cartney and this year's Super bowl highlight half time Performer Special - Tom Petty!

if you don't like his music or have never listened to it, you don't need to waste your time and mine posting here to cut him and his music down. I'm very disapointed in several of the above posts and posters. Your posts are very immature and disrespectful and show a general lack of musical intelligence.

it's too bad on the day he died, Spears' 16 year old sister stole the headlines by announcing she was pregnant. And that's what the press and media paid attention to. Fogelburg died after fighting a 3 year battle of prostate cancer, not from some drug overdose. Dan Fogelberg was a very talented muscian and great entertainer. I'll miss his music. Thankfully there are still muscians today that are very much like him that are still worth listening to.

The leader of the band is tired and his eyes are growing old

But his blood runs through my instrument and his song is in my soul

My life has been a poor attempt to imitate the man

I'm just a living legacy to the leader of the band

His songs and life touched mine.
