2008 Breakout Player

ELCABALLO45

In 2007 it was Corey Hart. Who do you guys think is going to break-out this year and just be a machine this year?

My Prediction:

Starting Pitcher Carlos Villanueva

I think this guy has a chance to be a stud.

So who do you think? (Here comes the Rickie Weeks love in 5....4.....3....2....1.....

Villanueva had a good year last year. He just didn't have the same role all year or he would have had a breakout year last year. I would consider last year a breakout year for Villanueva. I don't see who else on our roster is more poised for a breakout year than

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

Since Weeks and most others mentioned have already had very successful years, "breakout" might be a relative term. Weeks could certainly do better, but he's already a solid player.

Based on his 2007 season and AFL, I'll go with Mitch Stetter. He is what he is, but I would have said he was just a AAA guy a few months ago. Maybe lefties do develop later.

I think that one guy at first will start doing something.

I don't think Parra will be in a position to have a "breakout" -- filling a long relief role. However, I predict by late June there is a lengthy discussion on this forum as to who is our ace -- Gallardo or Villanueva... and nobody will be wrong.

How about the whole team? If Melvin ultimately does nothing other than rearrange the defense to put Hall at third, Corey in CF, and Braun in LF and we get good health from our best starters we could threaten a 100 wins.

The obvious choices are Gallardo and Weeks. Gallardo just has to show he can preform like he did last year over an entire season. Weeks has to prove he can stay healthy over an entire season.

Luis Pena is a name I thought would be the potential savior of the bullpen the second half of the year. With how crowded the bullpen is getting it is looking less and less likely that he will be given much of an opportunity.

The Brewers just seem to good all across the field to have a true breakout candidate. Gallardo and Weeks have things left to prove but are already above average starters. In my mind for a player to have a breakout year, they have to be completely unproven, or expected to be a platoon member, or backup.

Manny Parra, if starting, or Luis Pena if closing are really the only two potentials for what I would define as breakout players.
