Mike Jones?

wcswimmer712
Has Mike had any serious injuries in his career, or has he been an underperformer? Because everyone on this board seems to have given up on him. Isn't he only 21 or 22 years old still? Couldn't he still put it together, and still have a good career?

Mothership...I am with you. I have my hopes up! I am actually looking forward to spring training. I understand Mike has been working out hard and feels good. In my opinion half of Mike would be good enough. I don't think he would be happy though unless he was lights out!

Good luck Mike Jones huge fan in AZ

He's pretty much done...

Really? Jones did pretty well a year ago, his first full season back in I can't count how many years. Yes, the odds are working against Jones, but I would find it somewhat disrespectful to say "he's pretty much done."

He posted a 2.61 ERA over two levels last year, pitching for the most part at Brevard County before earning a late season callup to Huntsville. While he didn't strike out as many batters as he has in the past, and walked way more than he should, he did a good job inducing groundballs and not allowing hits, while giving up only 1 HR in over 58 innings of work.

I'm going to give Jones another chance this year before I come close to writing him off. And if anyone has the determination to overcome the odds presented before him, its Mike Jones.

I don't have a link or anything, but I think I remember reading that his velocity has dropped into the 80s. Combine that with the lackluster K rate and you have a very forgettable prospect.

I hope I'm wrong about the loss of velocity--or that it was only temporary--but I don't plan on ever seeing Mike in Milwaukee.

Mike Jones should be prepped to be a closer...it is just about the only way he and his arm can make the show

To continue to build his arm strength back up, he would be better served remaining in the starting rotation so he can get regular work every five days. Figuring out how he fits in the future is a secondary concern at this point.

One of the Brewers officials, I think Reid Nichols, said on the radio in the late fall that Mike Jones was or will get to 95% of his former self, which he felt would be enough to be a good prospect.

On the other hand, he implied that Manny Parra's career will be more limited by his injuries. I inferred that he was suggesting maybe only a middle reliever or situational lefty in the majors?

If the injuries will limit Parra, perhaps getting him into the pen now would help. Nothing wrong with being a quality lefthander in the bullpen. Of course, perhaps erratic work is worse.
