Brewers non-tendering Kevin Mench - Maybe?

yoyo49
I still would have offered Mench arbitration. He has proven at the MLB level that he mashes LHP. We still don't have a LF. I guess the only reason to nontender him is if you are definatley going to get either a 3B or LF. Mench, despite people's general dislike of him(which I think mostly stems from losing Lee more than anything Mench has or hasn't done), would still make a better platoon partner than Dillon. Yes he is overpriced, but for one year I would be willing to keep him. If we were talking about overpaying for several years(most free agents) I would have a problem.

I blame Wang.

Wow saving silverman reference.

I was excited when he came, Melvin seemed fairly high on him and well, that didn't work out. But the truth is, we really don't need a leftie specialist. Yost will Yost him and put him against RHP, just like putting Jenkins against Lefties. We saw this all year long, we burn our bench because the batter doesn't have a chance hitting.

BTW, on a completely unrelated note. Does anyone know what number Gross is going to wear? I heard Kendall is taking 18, crap I just got his game used #18 jersey.

I'd say he's a good bet to end up back in Texas. It's too bad he couldn't regain the power stroke he had with the Rangers, but he did what he was asked to do in Milwaukee and did well in that regard. I'll never forget his WWE-style entrance into Miller Park on the night of that Carlos Lee trade. I could almost hear Daron Sutton turning into Jim Ross and yelling "My gawd! It's Kevin Mench! Kevin Mench is in the building!"

AHAHAHAHAHA. That was one of the best moments ever. He walks in through the back, says hi to everyone, making his way to the locker room. Exactly like a WWE moment.

Fear not - it shows you're no johnny-come-lately when it comes to being a Brewer fan. "I followed Gabe Gross when he wore #18."

I'm going to have to break the Mench news to my mom - who decided last summer (when she got FSN access for the first time in July) that Kevin Mench was her favorite Brewer, "because he looks the least like a professional athlete." Yeah, I could have pointed out Estrada, but I chose not to. I was just glad she was interested in a team not named the Packers.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

Ha! trwi I feel your pain. If I was at the game, and I sat down in a rally saying "It's mench.. game over" he'd do something silly like win the game. It was like clockwork, seriously. My hate made him strong.. I need to find a new player...

Is this something that has already happened or just speculation at this point? We have until December 12th to make a decision and Melvin has a habit of waiting on this stuff until the last second.

I personally didn't like him because he averaged roughly one pitcher per plate appearance.
