Huston Street

There's now way this happens, but imagine for a second Swisher and Street are on the Brewers....

See how happy you feel?

That's exactly what I was going to post. Then pogokat pooped in my dream-hat.

This is what Melvin does every winter meeting. He calls other teams and asks them what they want for X player. They tell him, and he says "OK, thanks bye" and he's never heard from again. He's there he mine as well do something. By Friday he'll be prank calling other teams.

Then he'll get into his usual contract talks w/ a FA, and just fall short by like $1million per year or something like that.....oh wait

He's already got his Craig Counsel signing out of the way Mr. Kendal.

Next on the Melvin agenda....sign a very very average player for about 3-4 years and over pay him. hmmm who could it be? I'm thinking Brad Wilkerson or Pedro Feliz.

Street's numbers have been incredibly impressive during his first three years in the big-leagues. It's amazing that his career ERA is as high as it is (2.58) considering his career OPS against is only .566 with a career WHIP of 1.02. He quite simply does not allow baserunners of any kind.

Which would cause me to give him a pretty good package of talent as long as the A's were looking for a prospect package, as I wouldn't trade any of the team's proven talent such as Yo or Villy, especially if Melvin wasn't willing to trade Weeks for Chad Cordero (as he shouldn't). You have to believe they would be all over Manny Parra and Mat Gamel, even if people's initial reaction would be to not give up that kind of talent. Street is just one of the best young players in the game, and he would be under the team's control for three more years entering his first year of arbitration this offseason. Try to sign him to a 4-year extension, buying him out of one of his free agency years, for probably half to three-quarters the money Coco signed for and the Brewers have one of baseball's best, and youngest, closers.

This is virtually the same discussion we had when Broxton's name came up, but count me in for Parra or Villanueva as prime bait for Huston Street.

Heck I'd be nice and throw in Turnbow.

you would do all that for a guy who throws ONE inning every so often?

Where did my post say Parra AND Villanueva?

My post said "count me in for Parra OR Villanueva"

TCSM, that inning here and there is often the difference between winning and losing and it's currently manned on this staff by either Riske (who's never been a full time closer) or Turnbow. Nuff said.

well, how serious was his injury last season?

I had him on 2 fantasy teams and he was basically useless due to injury.

Was his injury one that will cause difficulty in the future?

He seems like a risk to me. In fact, it seems every player we show interest in on this board is an injury risk.

Briggs you seem to forget about the other 8 innings. the 6+ a starting pitcher can pitch is even more important then the one inning a closer can throw. I could care less who our closer is if we can't have the lead by the 9th inning it doesn't mean anything.

If they offered a trade of Street for Villy I'd start laughing then walk away. Villy has shown he can pitch into the 6th+ while giving us the lead. Those innings are more important then the ONE a closer can give us.

Yes you need someone who can close the game, but there are plenty of individuals who we could rather sign who can fill that need. ala: gagne, dotel, etc.
