I guess that starts to set Jenkins price as he puts up similar or better stats vs righties. So figure he's worth at least half as much.

Royals probably needed someone like him to field a competitive team but it does seem like an awful lot for Guillen.

Yipee!!!

A puzzle piece to be traded at the deadline next summer for a couple A ball prospects. I hate when crappy, small-market teams overpay on free agents, just to ship them off at the deadline the next year. I happens all the time. I bet Guillen will be with Chicago/New York/L.A./Texas before the end of the 2008 season.

You have to pay them even if they have a bad attitude you don't if they get suspended.

Sure, but then you have to worry about finding a LF for 50 games.

true but bad attitude can filter into the rest of the team and cause problems in more than one position.
There needs to be a King Thames version of the bible.

It's the Royals. Do they really need to worry about finding someone to play LF? Does it really matter that much, anyway? It's kind of like that tree falling in the forest analogy. Personally, I'm a huge baseball fan, and its pretty difficult to me to even acknowledge that the Royals are even fielding a major league team anymore. They've kind of been a pseudo minor league team for the big markets for years.

That's why the Guillen signing makes sense. A big market/playoff contending club probably couldn't afford to take the chance of signing guillen to a big deal, but if he works out for the Royals and puts up nice numbers, that contract won't look so bad to a big market come August. I guarantee if he puts up numbers, he'll be on the market. It's actually a decent way for small markets to stock their minor league talent.

It's called the "Reggie Sanders Theory".

Because he is very injury prone and signed through 2011?

It's very possible he'll regress, but he had the 12th best ERA in the AL, the Royals have zero reason so far to not be happy with the signing. Meche got Suppan money and out performed Suppan by quite a bit. Given the escalation in salaries, 11 million per for Meche hardly looks like some big mistake at this point.
