Trade Rankings

Trowekamp

One of the features I like on the sports guy's web-site on ESPN is ranking the trade values of NBA players. In order here is my rankings of the Brewers:

1. Sheets - no reason to sell low and you need an ace to win a World Series and we don't know if Yo will become one yet.
2. Fielder
3. Braun
4. Hart
5. Yo
6. Villenueva
7. Hall - I think his contract will look plenty reasonable when it is done.
8. Weeks - No back-up options at 2b
9. Parra - Either future closer or #3 starter

10. Capuano - Absolutely no reason to trade an 18 game winner at his lowest possible value. We should be looking for 3 Cappy's to trade for.
11. Hardy - He is this low because this is a classic sell high situation with a viable replacement option (Hall)
12. Bush - Eats innings, can relieve, can start.
13. The Field - I don't see anyone else on the roster as being a big loss (I am not counting Riske since he isn't official).

I agree that Fielder has to be number one. Here's my crack at it:

1. Prince Fielder -- Dude is 23 and already has a 50 HR season under his belt

2. Ryan Braun -- 24 years old and hit like an all-star veteran his rookie year

3. Ben Sheets -- Even with only one season left on his contract and his recent injury history, the guy is a true ace and critical to the success of our team in 2008.

4. Yovani Gallardo -- The guy has shown he can pitch like an ace, never a sure thing, but pitching is invaluable

5. Corey Hart -- He just does everything above average. Can't ask for more.

6. Rickie Weeks -- Arguably the most physically gifted player on the team. We need to see the results in 2008.

7. Carlos Villanueva -- Another guy that has just shown an ability to pitch. Get him in the rotation for good.

8. Manny Parra -- Gotta love the young lefty. Hope he's healthier in the bigs than he was on the farm.

9. J.J. Hardy -- Slick defense, good and potentially great offense from the shortstop position.

10. Bill Hall -- Great versatility in the field and, when he's on, he has my favorite stroke at the plate.

Wow. I don't think I am that bias against Sheets, but I wouldn't have him in the top 5.

I would trade Sheets straight up if he could net us Weeks, Yovanni or Corey Hart. (Remembering that you are trading one year of Sheets for 3-5 years of the others)

I might even take Villanueva and Parra above him.

Bill Simmons article is largely based on contract status. Otherwise it would just be ranking the best players in the NBA. I think Sheets is certainly one of our best players. But I think we would get a much bigger haul if we were willing to trade our other "core" players who are cheap for years to come.

Here's mine:

Fielder

Braun

Yo

Sheets

Hart

Weeks

A team who thinks they will be Worls Series contenders next year, would salivate over gettin ga guy like Sheets, even if only for a year. Finding an ace you can trade for doesn't happen too often.

1.Fielder-50 home runs can't argue with that

2.Braun-Rookie of the Year, gotta put him up there.

3.Weeks-Lots of speed, could be 30/30 type guy.

4.Hardy-Former All-Star. Very solid defensively. Great actor....

5.Yo-Very young, Lots of potiental. Will be a ace one day.

6.Hart-Solid glove, great bat, good speed.

7.Sheets-Injury issues that drop him down this far, when pitching is great.

8.Charlos V-Some good potential behind him, won't ever be an ace, but a good 3 to 4 starter

9.Hall-Show he can hit the ball 2 years ago, if returns to that form, could be a top 3 guy on team.

10.Parra-Lefty. Can pitch very well.

I'm with And That. For a sport with no salary cap, salary doesn't come into play as much as it does in the No Balls Association (patented Simmons). As for value, Fielder would probably net 1-for-1, 99% of the players in baseball. Simmons also takes into account how likely that player would be moved, and Prince is the face of Milwaukee's resurgence. His family drama is front page news in Wisconsin. How many times have we heard about Braun's efforts in Israel or Rickie's brother doing very well as a Team USA member (and former Brewer draftee... I'd rather have him in the system than Bailey!) And Yovani...and all that he is.... SICK!!! Five more years of control. Braunski, too. And imagine the Brews not starting Parra's clock until next year's mid-season. Just a sick time to be a Brew Crew fan.

Fielder and Braun - bother are equal IMO. I do believe Fielder is a FA in 2010 - he's got more years of service so maybe Braun is even worth more?

Gallardo - one of the top young prospects in all of baseball. His trade value is close to equal to Sheets IMO. Sheets is a FA next year so I put Gallardo higher.

Sheets

Hart

Weeks

Hardy

Hall

Villaneuva

Parra
