Oakland A's players to look at trading for

Since it appears that Billy Beane (God among GMs) wants to retool the A's (putting Haren's and Blanton's name out there in trade rumors), I was wondering if there were other players on their roster that would make sense for the Brewers to look at trading for...

Some possible bullpen arms, most of which went through 2007 with some injuries, but relievers can bounce back and be effective, especially ones with some talent.

Kiko Calero

Justin Duchsherer

Alan Embree

Rich Harden

Some possible position players - the list isn't as long because I think the only real question marks on the Brewers position roster are 3B and LF/CF

Eric Chavez

Mark Kotsay

Both of these guys had injury-riddled 07's as well. If Chavez is healthy, he'd be a much younger version (he'll turn 30 next year) of Scott Rolen, plus he's a left-handed bat in a lineup currently void of lefties aside from Fielder. He strikes out a ton, but wouldn't be terrible in the 6 or 7 slot in the lineup, and he's an elite defensive 3B when healthy. I think his contract is similar to Rolen's in terms of dollars, and it may end a season or two earlier, freeing up any money spent on him to resign the young players down the road.

Assuming the A's do trade some of their top starting pitchers this offseason and really rebuild their roster, would they do a trade similar to:

any one of Cappy/Bush/Vargas + Gamel(IMO, he's blocked at any position the Brewers may want him to play if he reaches the bigs)

for

Chavez

any one of Calero/Embree/Duchsherer

I think including Harden in a trade package with Chavez makes the asking price too high for the Brewers to swallow

thoughts?

I would really be interested in sending Bush and Capuano to KC, DDeJesus to OAK, and then have OAK send Blanton or Haren to MIL...prospects (TGJ) or filler (ZachJack) will have to be added by all teams, but that is the meat of my hopes...

Chances are if the A's move Haren or Blanton, Duke will move into the rotation.

I'm not sure the Brewers have the ammo (difference makers in the upper levels of the minor leagues) to trade with the A's. There's not really any fits, unless Billy wants to do a salary dump with Chavy, but that probably won't work, either.

I'd really like to get Landon Powell, maybe in a minor deal. They've commited to Suzuki behind the plate, and Barton is going to probably be at 1B, with Cust DH'ing, so there's a chance that Powell could be expendable (maybe for Bush or something?). If so, I think he could go to Nashville and be ready to replace a struggling/ineffective Kendall by August.

Yeah, Dan Haren is a Cy Young caliber pitcher. Blanton could be had for less than Haren, but he's a pretty decent pitcher, too, and decent cheap pitchers don't come cheap. And Blanton's been a workhorse, as well as Haren. If Beane does decide to tear down, he's going to make a killing on prospects.

I'd think there's a good chance Haren goes to the loser of the Santana race (Boston, most likely) for a nice group of players. That being said, I don't necessarily buy that there is going to be a teardown.
