While At Work

radman12484
I find myself just reading every little post on this website. I get so bored at times, I'll read stuff I don't care about. I'm at work now and really bored. That is probably why I am posting this now. Sorry to take up anyones time, but I needed to get that off my chest.

Radman, you and me both. There are times where the day goes by in what seems like ten minutes, then there are days like today where I scour every news site I can possibly find. I also remember that FTJ doesn't mind the Beatles or Pink Floyd, but doesn't have any of their records. Yeah, I'm bored.

Bob Slydell: You see, what we're actually trying to do here is, we're trying to get a feel for how people spend their day at work... so, if you would, would you walk us through a typical day, for you?

Peter Gibbons: Yeah.

Bob Slydell: Great.

Peter Gibbons: Well, I generally come in at least fifteen minutes late, ah, I use the side door - that way Lumbergh can't see me, heh heh - and, uh, after that I just sorta space out for about an hour.

Bob Porter: Da-uh? Space out?

Peter Gibbons: Yeah, I just stare at my desk; but it looks like I'm working. I do that for probably another hour after lunch, too. I'd say in a given week I probably only do about fifteen minutes of real, actual, work.

-----------------------------

Peter Gibbons: The thing is, Bob, it's not that I'm lazy, it's that I just don't care.

Bob Porter: Don't... don't care?

Peter Gibbons: It's a problem of motivation, all right? Now if I work my ass off and Initech ships a few extra units, I don't see another dime; so where's the motivation? And here's something else, Bob: I have eight different bosses right now.

Bob Slydell: I beg your pardon?

Peter Gibbons: Eight bosses.

Bob Slydell: Eight?

Peter Gibbons: Eight, Bob. So that means that when I make a mistake, I have eight different people coming by to tell me about it. That's my only real motivation is not to be hassled; that, and the fear of losing my job. But you know, Bob, that will only make someone work just hard enough not to get fired.

-------------

Office Space is the greatest movie ever. I sometimes feel like Gibbons when I am at work. I do just enough to not get fired.

I do the same, what sucks is that our office is going to begin monitoring our internet activity in like 2 weeks.

Currently only about 15 out of 60 or so employees has the internet. Our manager really doesn't care what we do as long as we get our work done so she doesn't even request the reports.

Starting next Friday, all employees will get full internet access and the reports will automatically print off for the manager to view how often we are on the internet and the sites we are viewing.....which might make for some long, long days for me as I read JSOnline, check my fantasy teams, and of course Brewerfan for at least an hour or two each day.....grrrr
