Juan Pierre anyone?

TURBO

My question about Pierre is if he made half the money he currently makes, would people here like him as a possible centerfielder for the brewers? I 'd like to understand if the bias against pierre is that he's way overpaid and money is the real issue. or if the posters that don't like him, jus t want all brewers hitters to be power hitters? I for one think the brewers have enough power hitters in their line-up and would welcome a hitter whose sole purpose is to just get a single and be on base for when hardy, braun, and Fielder hit one out of the Park.

over the years there have been a lot of "Bad" words used to describe Pierre by Brewer posters. I could never understand why. I could understand when he was a Cub, why Brewer posters would say bad things about him. I can understand people saying he's overpaid. Jeter is overpaid. Arod is overpaid. Clemens was way overpaid as were Matthews, Sexson and Hunter and many other power hitters. Some people think OPS is a better guage of a player's talent. I personally love guys that steal bases. I grew up watching the "GO GO" Sox. Their "GO GO" shorts, while not entirely receiving a blessing for wear by MLB, looked cool. (OK, they looked so stupid, that they looked cool.) Watching the White Sox steal bases was a lot more exciting than watching a Prince Fielder bomb leave the park. Once Fielder hits it, you know it's gone . Where's the excitement in that? Even Dick Allen would try to steal a base. Now watching Dick trying to steal a base was exciting. Sometimes he made it without being caught. Bill Melton was a different story.

I realize Pierre will never be anything more than he is . But isn't what he is and does exciting to anybody else besides me? I also like carl Crawford for the exact same reasons.

If Pierre carried a good OBP, I don't think people would be nearly as down on him as they are. A .331 OBP just isn't that good, and it's been right around that rate for the last 3 years.

He hits for absolutely NO power. In 8 full MLB seasons, he's managed 30 doubles only once. The stolen bases, ability to bunt, those are nice, I don't think anyone is going to argue that. But I think the point people are making is the negatives (zero power, awful, awful throwing arm, and a mediocre OBP) outweigh his positives by quite a bit.

It's a combination of both. He's way overpaid and he doesn't even carry a good OBP anymore so he wouldn't be on for Braun, Fielder, Hart and Hardy.

Pierre is paid like a guy who can do a lot of things. He has only a few things he does well, and even those things he doesn't do as well as he used to (except for basestealing, maybe, which has remained pretty good). If he could play decent defense and carry an above average OBP for a league-average salary, as was the case a few years back, he'd be a nice acquisition...2004 Juan Pierre I'd be happy to have for $2.4M. Since 2004, though, the trends all point the wrong way: his OBP and defensive skills have gone down as his salary and age have gone up.
