Posting trades and FA signings

I noticed in the past month several trades and free agent signings were posted in the major league forum before they were finalized. In some cases, they were posted several days before they were finalized. In the case of the Rays and Twins trade, the posted player names of the initial trade had to be changed after the post was made and the post had to be edited to reflect the change of players. The Kendall, Linebrink and Cordero signings were all posted in the major league forum several days before they were finalized. In the case of Cordero, there was still a small possibility after the initial post was made that Cordero would change his mind and resign with the Brewers.

I realize brewerfan posters like to provide instant information as far as trades go, but some of the sources used for those initial posts have not always been very accurate. I would hate to see a Santana trade posted with him going to the White Sox only to see it changed later that day with the Yankees as his actual destination. I feel bad for the player whose name was posted today as part of the twins/ rays trade post that ended up not being traded. Fortunately, his name was edited out of the initial post. I would hate for the same thing to happen to a Brewers player. It's very possible Sheets could be traded and fail a physical and be returned to the Brewers. And I know if Sheets were traded, there would be 100+ posts before he ever had a chance to meet the other team's physicians. The same could be true with a player like Percival. He could agree to terms with a team and fail their physical. It has actually happened where players fail their physical and the trade is voided. It happened today as part of the Twins / Rays trade.

I would ask that FA signings and trades not be posted in the major league forum until they are actually finalized. I request that initial posts of FA signings and trades be initiated in the rumors forum until the signing or trade has been finalized.

Only trades that have links to legitimate sources (ie, not someone's blog) that say a deal has been reached should go in the ML forum, and that's how it's been prior to this year. Neither the Percival thread nor the Garza thread were done, so they should have been in the rumors forum, and were moved there at some point last evening until completion of the deal.

Hopefully that helps clarify things a bit.

Like Peavey said, it should only go in the major league forum when it's from a legitimate source. Now, that may mean it doesn't really happen, but if someone says "[radio station or writer] reported that a trade of [player for player] is a done deal and will be announced officially at noon", I don't see any problem posting it in the big league forum. It just has to be from a credible source saying it's a done deal, not just a rumor or strong possibility.

Actually the player in the Garza-Delmon Young trade that was removed, Juan Rincon, was reported by a real news source, the Star-Tribune, as being included in the deal. They later reported that he was removed from the deal because of an injury issue. Maybe they reported it as being final prematurely, but that shouldn't be for us to determine.

I'd just like to give a big WOOOOT!!!1!!!!@!! for the newly-renamed Transaction Rumors/Proposals Forum! OMG!!!1!!@!!*!

Seriously though (not to suggest that my first line was anything but serious), I think it's awesome. Our transactions-vs.-trades WOAHs are definitelllly SOLVDD.

This appears to be the pertinent entry in the administrative log:

User: Brian the Automator changed description from: "" to: "" in folder: "Main Forums"

I like the "" to: "" thing. Board admins get to deal with little Yuku bugs, too. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.
