Chone Figgins

SJgunny
With all the talk of the angels going after M.Cabrera to play 3rd base, would the Angels maybe part with Figgens? He steals bases hits for average, and has a obs of .393. He does not hit for power but sounds like a guy Melvin may want.

If they trade for Cabrera, however, they would have to give up Howie Kendrick, opening up a spot for Chone to play, and team with Eric Aybar (unless Aybar plays second and Brandon Wood plays short). However, he would be an expensive target, even if he were available, because of his popularity with the fantasy crowd and because of his second half resurgence last year. But the Angels would make a good partner with their bullpen.

I know he had an off year in 2008, but he still had a .367 OBP, is he the type of player that we should take a gamble on to solve our leadoff spot problem? He has great speed, places above average defense at 3rd and he may cost less now that he has only one year left before free agency, and they have his likely replacement in Brandon Wood. What do you think?

Positives - Gets on base, good speed, Switch hitter, average to above average D at 3rd.

Negatives- No power, strikes out a lot, only around 450 Ab's the last 2 seasons, only 1 year left.

I like his offensive skill set a lot either at 2B or CF and leading off. He'd definitely improve the Brewer offense. Sure his strikeout rate is a bit high for a non-power guy but it's no worse than Craig Counsell's and he's a lot better hitter. Not that the Angels won't listen to offers but he's still a bargain at $4.75 million so I don't think he'd come cheap, one year deal or no.

Would they take Hall as a replacement super utility guy plus a halfway decent prospect? Probably not. If he's available, a lot of teams will get in the bidding.
