sad day, I have 8 of Quiet Riot's CDs and still play them on occasion...

They were the first metal act in the 80's to score a big record contract and the first metal act to score a #1 album...

REST in PEACE KDB...

Well, as one of the few hair metal heads on this board, it's a sad day for me. I'm a huge fan of the genre to this day.

If you want to make your little jokes, go ahead, but they can wait.

Yeah, I know they sang Slade songs, but they also have a catalog of at least 10 CDs.

You're no the only one Bernie. I'm 43 and that was the music of my late teens and ealry 20's. I have Metal Health and it still holds up to this day. I have a soft spot for them because I loved Randy Roades and they were his first band. Rudy Sarzo was a very underrated Bassist. Their overall work though wasn't the best example of the genre IMO. The song Party All Night just didn't work for me. In fact that whole album was weak IMO. I kind of lost respect for Dubrow with his whinning about the other hair band's assent at the time. He was a part of the Van Halen era in LA in the 70's and felt he had paid his dues. He seemed to resent the fact that all of a sudden every dude and his brother came up with a band and made the scene taking away his glory. The metal boom of 84 was a product of small studios rise so everyone could find someone to record their tunes. It took away the corporate studio's control over who got exposure and the fans ended up with a whole plethera of choices they woldn't have had a few years earlier. Metalica was one of the few who actually had an album out prior to the 84 metal boom. Yet we never heard them complain about all the others. They just kept touring and enjoying their success that could largely be attributed to the boom.

Kind of reminds me of the Scorpions. No matter how well the rest of their careers went they always have that one great album that holds up for generations. Blackout, Metal Health man I'm getting all nostalgic for the 80's now. I guess I should go to the I feel old thread now and weep.

  • 2 weeks later...

I saw them in 1983 on their Metal Health tour with the Scorpions, they KILLED the Scorps, and at the time, the Scorpions were huge!

That Metal Health album is just classic 80's bombastic metal! Still like it to this day!

A few years ago, he was on one of those package tours and was known to complain about the drugs and partying taking place by members of other bands. Sad that he relapsed and fell victim despite his earlier grumblings.
