Brewers "garage sale?"

Shootkick1000

All right, since I worked until 8:30 and the ballyard is pretty much on my way home I stopped in.

I got there around 9:05. There were probably 50 people there already.

The most expensive game worn jerseys were a Braun for $2000 and another for I think $1750. The cheapest was $75, including a bunch of #99 "Bat Boy" which I wouldn't wear if you gave to me for free. And of course several priced in between the two extremes.

They had a bunch of game used bats, the most expensive being $750 for a few different Brauns. There were a bunch of Carlos Lee's for $75.

They also had helmets. They appeared to all be $75. I only saw two or three. I'm not sure if there weren't that many to begin with or if people had already cleaned them out.

There were a bunch of vultures swarming around the game used stuff so I didn't get a chance (and didn't really care to) to look at what was actually left; I'm just going by the price lists on the wall.

They had a huge pile of lineup cards, of which I wouldn't have minded one or two but not at 40 bucks a pop. Maybe if I had a certain game in mind, but still, that's kind of steep.

The middle of the room was racks of shirts and other apparel. I didn't really check out the prices. I don't think there was much in the way of price slashing on those and the fitted hats and such that were around the perimeter.

There was a long table of things, most of which were between $1 and $5, which is what I stuck to. Pretty much what you'd expect. I bought (all $1 items) an '82 keychain, an '82 magnet, a Sausage Race t-shirt, a Negro Leagues t-shirt, a Washington Nationals t-shirt, two children's bucket hats, and four 8x10s (2 Yost, a Wise, & a Miller, which was the whole selection).

I waited in line at least 20 minutes to check out. There was a rack of the most expensive jerseys along the wall near the registers. I thought the guy in front of me's head was going to explode trying to decide if he was going to drop 300 bucks on a Weeks jersey.

Channel 12 was there. They interviewed two guys about last night's Packers game (naturally).

I don't know if it's because I was cranky from work but the whole experience annoyed the hell out of me.

so will they have game used bats available? what is the price range on those things? i'd really like a bill hall...
I believe there was one Hall bat and I think it was $250. But again, that's what it said on the list and it's possible that somebody snagged it right away.

thanks for the info gypcasino. I am not going till tomorrow but at least i know what i am in for. Seems like it is pretty similar to past seasons. Don't know why channel 12 would go to a brewers thing to talk packers (well i do know, but it still annoys me). Didn't they get enough post game fan reaction last night.?

I just got back, gyp was right. Very very long lines.

I ended up getting a Gabe Gross game worn jersey for 75 bucks! That's a pretty good deal since a stitched authentic jersey is way more. Most of the good stuff was gone, you can still get a Dessens jersey for 75 bucks! Woo! And Kolb.

The Brewers club house is also open for signed chairs and name plate. Was neat just to see all of them. Braun and Fielder are gone, but jsut about everyone else was available.

Was I the only person who had a hard time finding where to park and go in? I parked near the first lot I saw, which was the Brewers office lot. I ended up wandering around until I made into the offices, and then they sent me down to the Hot Corner entrance near Friday's.

I was thiiiiiiiiiiis close to buying my wife a game used Joe Winkelsas jersey, just because she giggles every time she says his last name. I passed on it. I was going to get a Rick Helling jersey for $75, but I passed on that too.

It's a good thing I have a big melon, because I was able to pick up a couple of fitted caps for $5 each. (Retro and regular logo, size 7 3/4) I also bought a Milwaukee Bears t-shirt for $5, and a Bernie Brewer shirt for $5 as well.

I had a little bit of a problem with the Ebay entrepreneurs who were there. They were selling kid's sizes racing sausages t-shirts for $1 each. I was looking at grabbing 4 of them (for my nieces and nephews) and the guy next to me grabbed at least 15, paying no attention to the size of the shirts. I was able to get the last 3 that Mr. Ebay left behind.

We arrived between 11:30 and noon and while there was a healthy crowd around then, we really didn't get caught by a line, not even at checkout. The location was the same last year, so we knew where to go - but they had little or nothing in the way of directional signage.

I was hoping someone from this site would comment on the Winkelsas jersey (which was still available by the time we left). I was trying to sell the S.O. on a Jose Hernandez 2001 jersey (since he heckled Jose relentlessly throughout the 2002 season), but he wouldn't go for it.

The $75 jersey selection was fairly ho-hum by midday, although more were brought out during our visit. Besides the names mentioned earlier, I saw Ben Hendrickson, Ed Sedar, Dennis Sarfate, Laynce Nix, Brady Clark, Jose Capellan, Grant Balfour, Dave Krynzel, Rick Helling, Chad Moeller, Jared Fernandez. There was a gray Ray King jersey that came down almost to my knees when I held it up to myself (wouldn't you think it'd be wider instead of longer?). I believe there were several Evelands and Demarias, and a Marcus Hanel. A bunch were retro BP jerseys that didn't have names on the back, but had the game-used tags inside so you could see whose they were.

The Corey Hart retro jersey was mighty pretty, but at $500 not a purchase I was willing to make. I slightly regret passing on the $150 Hart jersey last December.

Player tees for Linebrink, Estrada and Cordero were marked down to $5 (which is quite a bit less than $46MM or even $19MM, or whatever Linebrink signed for). Except for some women's shirts, the place was oddly bereft of Jenkins gear.

Lots of "1982 25th anniversary" merchandise (which makes sense), lots of caps (some fitted, some not), and too many ugly Christmas ornaments for my taste.

I have a bunch of $1 packs of baseball cards for my nephew (including one from 1986, go figure), some magnets like gypcasino got, a popup hamper and a cap.

I saw people leaving with signed chairs and now wonder where the indication was that the Brewers clubhouse was housing any merchandise at all. What did those and the nameplates go for?

Overall, I thought last year's selection was better. However, given the team's popularity in 2007, I'm not particularly surprised to see less leftover merchandise this time. I don't regret making the trip - it's nice to visit in the off-season, kind of a reminder that the ballpark and the Brewers still exist. Plus in our post-sale lunch at Gilles, we saw Bud Selig, toting his lunch out to his black Lexus. I'm only surprised it took this many years of Gilles visits to finally have a Selig sighting.

Also - they have stacks of free 2008 schedule magnets. Season ticket holders got the same one with their renewal mailing. I picked up a few extra as possible trading chips.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

The signed chairs with the locker nameplate were going for $300 for star players and $200 for everyone else from Gabe Gross to Mel Stocker to Mike Maddux.

I really heavily debated 'em... but I was in the room with the guys buying the Braun and Fielder ones. I'm sure those are getting resold. As far as knowing about them... I didn't see any markings. I was just told by some of the staff. I got there at 8:30ish and was chatting up a couple people.

I walked out with a Jenkins and a Bush retro jersey and also a Jenkins helmet. I bought all of 'em because I couldn't decide which one I wanted... I can't afford to keep all 3 though. I'll probably sell one or two after pondering for a while. I might go back... I'm hoping to find a Davey Nelson jersey for my wife... I think that might make her Christmas.

I got there about 8:30 and waited in line by the elevators with the rest of the people. Thanks to the elevators not working properly we ended going up to lodge level and club level twice once we finally got on. Some guy in are group new the entrances by the doors which is that ramp that leads down to the service leve so we got off the elavator and walked over to this blocked off ramp. We had to open a door at the bottom of the ramp by pressing a button then finally made it into the clubhouse. I thankthe person whoknew were to go.

By the time are little group of people got in most the good game used stuff from decent players I was looking to get was already taken. I think the first 5 -6 guys cleaned out most of the good stuff http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif I did see a Krynzel Retro jersey but passed it up :(I then wanted it a little later and it was to late. I had seen a kid who had a box with him for all his game used stuff he bought. I saw him at the Fielder bobblehead day in Beloit this year drop $200 on 4 game used jerseys. I think his total without the chair he was also getting today getting was $1200

I was hoping to get was Jenkins. If you sell either of the helmet you got Decktard I would buy them http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Seeing both Clubhouses was pretty cool especially the Brewers one If I had space or the need for a autographed chair I might have picked one up. In all I picked up a some '82 key chains 2 mini bats '82 and Stosh a Spring Training Bucket hat w/ Ball&Glove logo and a Spring Training T-shirt. My dad got a giant plastic pen and a pen pencil set.

We had other stuff to do for the rest of the day in Milwaukee and Sheboygan so this worked out well.

I just hope next year they fix the elavators http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
